About Tortello and Ficattola Festival

The Tortello and Ficattola Festival is the culinary event that brings Scarperia and San Piero to life every spring in the heart of the Florentine Mugello. For three consecutive weekends, the Le Cortine Sports Field transforms into a large, convivial dining hall where you can enjoy the most beloved dishes of the Mugello tradition: potato tortelli with meat sauce and ficattole, sheets of fried dough served hot with prosciutto crudo and stracchino cheese. A genuine local festival, held indoors and protected from the weather, designed for families and food lovers.

A spring festival in the heart of Mugello

The Tortello and Ficattola Festival is one of the most cherished culinary events in Scarperia and San Piero, a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Florence nestled in the hills of the Mugello, Tuscany. For three consecutive weekends between late March and early April, the community gathers around good food to celebrate the most authentic flavors of this corner of the Tuscan Apennines, where peasant cuisine is still a matter of family and memory.

The stars: tortelli and ficattole

The signature dish of the festival is the Mugello tortello, fresh pasta filled with potatoes and topped with a savory meat sauce: a humble yet rich specialty that originated in the homes of Mugello farmers and has become a true local gastronomic institution over time. Alongside the tortelli, the ficattole take center stageโ€”leavened dough sheets that are fried and served piping hot, to be enjoyed plain or stuffed with prosciutto crudo and stracchino cheese: a delicious combination that is worth the visit alone.

The festival menu

The food stand offers genuine and hearty cuisine. Must-try dishes include:

  • Mugello tortelli with meat sauce, made according to the traditional recipe
  • Ficattole, plain or with prosciutto crudo and stracchino
  • Grilled meats and barbecue
  • Traditional desserts, wine, and beverages

On Easter Sunday, a special offer is available: a fixed-price Easter menu by reservation, dedicated to those who want to celebrate in good company with festive dishes.

Where and when

The event takes place at the Le Cortine Sports Field, at Via Giacomo Matteotti 52 in Scarperia. A great advantage of the festival is that the venue is covered and heated: the celebration is guaranteed even in case of rain, a precious condition in a fickle season like the Mugello spring. The stand is open for both lunch and dinner on Saturdays and Sundays.

A community tradition

The event is organized by local sports associations ASD Fortis and ASD San Lorenzo, which enliven village life throughout the year. The festival is much more than a culinary appointment: it is an opportunity for the community of Scarperia and San Piero to meet, a moment when different generations gather around tables to share the flavors of Mugello. For those visiting this village, also famous for its knife-making tradition and the beautiful Palazzo dei Vicari, the festival is the best way to discover the genuine soul of this Tuscan land.
