Tuesday night street food in the heart of Campo Tures
The Tauferer Straßenküche — known in the local dialect as Sondna Stroßnkuchl, or "Campo Tures street kitchen" — is a staple of the South Tyrolean summer. Every Tuesday evening, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the streets of the historic center of Campo Tures (Sand in Taufers), in the autonomous province of Bolzano/South Tyrol, fill with tables, aromas, and music. Streets like Josef-Jungmann-Straße, Rathausstraße, and Kammerlanderplatz become one large open-air dining room, at the foot of the majestic Tures Castle and at the entrance to the Ahrntal valley.
Founded in the nineties, the event reaches the milestone of its 30th edition in 2026. Over three decades, it has become much more than a food festival: it is a place where locals and guests, young and old, gather at the table under the starry sky to share taste, tradition, and conviviality. The village's restaurateurs and taverns — from Drumlerhof to Stochas, from Café Domino to the Eppacher Bakery and the local butcher shop — serve their specialties directly on the street.
The cuisine ranges from typical South Tyrolean dishes to Mediterranean offerings. Among the specialties you can taste at the stalls:
The evening's soundtrack is provided by bands and groups that rotate weekly, ranging from folk and brass music to rhythmic jazz, with special performances around 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM. A rich, free program is dedicated to the little ones: the "Bauernlandzwerge" (farm dwarfs) with glitter tattoos and games, treasure hunts at the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park House, a forest craft corner, a climbing wall, and a trampoline. Shops, bars, and local venues stay open late into the evening, extending the festivities well beyond the closing of the food stalls.
The Tauferer Straßenküche is organized by the Campo Tures Tourist Association (Tourismusverein Sand in Taufers) and is one of the most characteristic summer events in the Municipality of Campo Tures and the entire Ahrntal valley, in South Tyrol. Admission is free: you only pay for what you consume at the individual stalls.
The 30th edition of the Tauferer Straßenküche takes place over eight Tuesday evenings, from July 7 to August 25, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, in the historic center of Campo Tures.
The village restaurateurs' stalls offer South Tyrolean specialties and Mediterranean dishes — from Krapflan and Buchteln to porcini mushroom risotto — alongside cheese tastings from the dairies of Selva dei Molini, Tures, and Ahrntal. Folk, brass, and jazz bands alternate to liven up the evenings. A rich, free program is provided for children: glitter tattoos with the "farm dwarfs," treasure hunts at the Nature Park House, a forest craft corner, a climbing wall, and a trampoline. Free admission.
