The festival of Montazzoli's humble dish, featuring pasta and beans, music, and town square festivities
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Tagliarille e Fascile Festival is the most anticipated summer event in Montazzoli, a village of just over eight hundred inhabitants perched at an altitude of 850 meters in the hinterland of the Province of Chieti, in Abruzzo, nestled between the Altosa ditch and the Sinello river. For over thirty years, the event has brought the symbol of local peasant cuisine back to the town square: tagliarille e fascile, a delicious Abruzzo-style take on pasta and beans.
Tagliarille are a fresh, hand-cut homemade pasta, which gives the dish its name in the Montazzoli dialect; fascile are the beans. The traditional seasoning, prepared especially during the winter months with high-quality local products, includes beans and pork rinds, creating a nutritious and flavorful dish rooted in the village's rural heritage. Alongside the signature dish, the stalls offer other local specialties, including crispelle and cheese-and-egg meatballs, all accompanied by good wine.
Montazzoli developed between the 9th and 12th centuries around a watchtower, in a panoramic position overlooking the mountains of the Alto Vastese. The village's economy is still tied to agriculture and livestock farming today, and it is from this peasant tradition that the festival was born, becoming over the years a meeting point for the community and a draw for visitors from neighboring towns.
The festival is about more than just food: the evenings come alive with live music, dance orchestras, and performances in the square, creating a convivial and popular atmosphere. Food stalls generally open in the evening, and the party continues late into the night, with outdoor tables and dancing under the stars. The event is organized by the Associazione Montazzoli in Fest 3-0 with the patronage of the Municipality of Montazzoli.
The Tagliarille e Fascile Festival is traditionally held in August. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: it is recommended to check the channels of the Municipality of Montazzoli and the organizing association to learn the program as soon as it is published.
The 2026 Tagliarille e Fascile Festival in Montazzoli is scheduled, according to established tradition, in the month of August. The precise dates and detailed program have not yet been published: the calendar of summer events (Estate Montazzolese 2026) was announced by the Municipality at the beginning of June, but the details of the specific festival will be released later by the Associazione Montazzoli in Fest 3-0.
As in previous editions, food stalls with tagliarille e fascile and other local specialties are expected, along with evenings of music and dancing in the square and a popular festive atmosphere. The program will be updated as soon as it is made public by the organizers.
Montazzoli is located in the hinterland of the Province of Chieti, in the Alto Vastese area. By car, it can be reached from the A14 Vasto Nord motorway exit, continuing inland along the provincial roads; the village is about an hour from the Adriatic coast. The nearest train station is Vasto-San Salvo.
Admission to the festival is free. Tastings are available at the food stalls with direct payment for the dishes; stalls generally open in the evening.
Located at an altitude of 850 meters, summer evenings can be cool: a warm layer is recommended. For updated dates and programs, please refer to the Municipality of Montazzoli.
