About Tagliarille e Fascile

In Montazzoli, a small village in the hinterland of the Chieti province, the Tagliarille e Fascile Festival celebrates the iconic dish of Abruzzo's peasant tradition every summer: tagliarille e fascile, a hearty pasta and bean soup enriched with pork rinds. This authentic village festival features evening food stalls, tastings of local specialties, fine wine, and nights of music and dancing in the historic center. A long-standing tradition, now in its thirtieth year, that brings the genuine flavors of the Abruzzo mountains back to life.

The festival of the humble Abruzzo dish

The Tagliarille e Fascile Festival is the most anticipated summer event in Montazzoli, a village of just over eight hundred inhabitants perched at an altitude of 850 meters in the hinterland of the Province of Chieti, in Abruzzo, nestled between the Altosa ditch and the Sinello river. For over thirty years, the event has brought the symbol of local peasant cuisine back to the town square: tagliarille e fascile, a delicious Abruzzo-style take on pasta and beans.

What are tagliarille e fascile?

Tagliarille are a fresh, hand-cut homemade pasta, which gives the dish its name in the Montazzoli dialect; fascile are the beans. The traditional seasoning, prepared especially during the winter months with high-quality local products, includes beans and pork rinds, creating a nutritious and flavorful dish rooted in the village's rural heritage. Alongside the signature dish, the stalls offer other local specialties, including crispelle and cheese-and-egg meatballs, all accompanied by good wine.

A village with medieval origins

Montazzoli developed between the 9th and 12th centuries around a watchtower, in a panoramic position overlooking the mountains of the Alto Vastese. The village's economy is still tied to agriculture and livestock farming today, and it is from this peasant tradition that the festival was born, becoming over the years a meeting point for the community and a draw for visitors from neighboring towns.

Music, dancing, and a festive atmosphere

The festival is about more than just food: the evenings come alive with live music, dance orchestras, and performances in the square, creating a convivial and popular atmosphere. Food stalls generally open in the evening, and the party continues late into the night, with outdoor tables and dancing under the stars. The event is organized by the Associazione Montazzoli in Fest 3-0 with the patronage of the Municipality of Montazzoli.

When it takes place

The Tagliarille e Fascile Festival is traditionally held in August. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: it is recommended to check the channels of the Municipality of Montazzoli and the organizing association to learn the program as soon as it is published.
