About Perano Borgo diVino

Perano Borgo diVino is an autumn food and wine festival that brings the historic center of Perano to life. Perched above the Sangro Valley in the province of Chieti, this small village hosts a three-day celebration between late October and early November. The streets transform into a tasting trail offering traditional Abruzzese peasant cuisine, new wine, and a gala of premium Abruzzo wines, all accompanied by folk music and traditional performances. The event is part of the National Days of the Authentic Villages of Italy.

Perano Borgo diVino: The Village That Becomes a Winery

Perano Borgo diVino is the premier food and wine event that enlivens the historic center of Perano every autumn. Located in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, the village sits in a panoramic position overlooking the Sangro River valley. For three evenings, between late October and early November, the narrow alleys, ancient cellars, and old olive mills of the town are transformed into a long tasting trail where wine is the absolute star.

A Journey Through Flavors and Traditions

At the heart of the event is a food and wine itinerary that winds through the village streets. Along the route, stalls offer specialties of Abruzzese peasant cuisine, many of which are the result of rediscovering nearly forgotten recipes. Frequently featured dishes include:

  • lu pane scafenesche, a traditional local bread;
  • pizze e foje, served with wild field greens;
  • sagne a pezz and polenta;
  • the essential arrosticini;
  • pallotte casce e ove, savory cheese and egg dumplings.

Wine as the Protagonist

Alongside the traditional dishes, wine accompanies the entire journey in its various forms: the season's new wine, the traditional spiced cooked wine, and the highlight of the event, the gala of great Abruzzo wines, dedicated to the region's finest labels. A digital map of the village, indicating the wineries and dishes available along the route, can be downloaded from the event's official page.

Music, Folklore, and Atmosphere

Starting around 7:00 PM, the evenings offer more than just tastings: folk groups and traditional music accompany visitors through the village streets, recreating the festive and convivial atmosphere of Abruzzese traditions. The event is organized by the Perano Borgo diVino Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Perano and the involvement of local associations.

Authentic Villages of Italy

Perano Borgo diVino is part of the National Days of the Authentic Villages of Italy, a network that promotes the cultural identity of small towns through culinary traditions and local heritage. For Perano, this is an opportunity to share its story and welcome visitors during the season of autumn flavors, amidst wine, chestnuts, and nostalgic dishes.
