The widespread wine festival of the Val di Cornia, through the streets of the medieval village of Suvereto
Every spring, the medieval village of Suvereto, in the heart of the Val di Cornia (Province of Livorno, Tuscany), transforms into a grand tasting trail. SUBER - Suvereto Wine Festival is a widespread festival that brings wine, oil, and local products into the streets, squares, and cloisters of one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. The festival is organized by the Consorzio Tutela Vini Suvereto e Val di Cornia with the patronage of the Municipality of Suvereto, and is designed to appeal to a young and curious audience approaching wine without any pretension.
The oenological heart of the event is the new Suvereto DOCG, the designation that captures the identity of this corner of the Tuscan coast, where Sangiovese, Vermentino, and great international grape varieties find expressions of great character. During the festival, local wineries open their doors and offer their wines directly to the public, in a continuous dialogue between tradition and innovation.
Strolling through Suvereto during SUBER means crossing the Chiostro di San Francesco, Piazza Gramsci animated by talks with producers and experts, and the many wine bars and trattorias in the historic center that offer special menus paired with local wines for the occasion. The festival thus combines wine culture, the discovery of medieval heritage, and the typical hospitality of the Tuscan coast, just a few kilometers from the sea and the Montioni Park.
SUBER is not a simple fair: it is a way to experience an entire village by the glass, amidst tastings, music, excursions, and meetings with those who truly make the wine. An ideal appointment for those who love slow tourism, quality food and wine, and the landscapes of the Val di Cornia.
The 2026 edition of SUBER - Suvereto Wine Festival, the third, celebrated the birth of the new Suvereto DOCG with the claim of a designation looking to the future. For three days, from May 1st to 3rd, the village of the Val di Cornia became a large wine bar spread across wineries, artisans, cloisters, and squares. The edition recorded over 2,000 attendees, 20 participating wineries, about 1,000 WineKits sold, and 150 participants in the masterclasses, with 15 speakers involved in thematic talks.
By car: Suvereto can be reached from the SS1 Aurelia (Venturina-Suvereto exit), about 15 km from the coast. By train: Campiglia Marittima station on the Tyrrhenian line, then bus or taxi to Suvereto. Nearest airports: Pisa and Florence.
Entrance to the village is free. For tastings, you can purchase the WineKit (glass + tastings) starting from about 10 euros. Masterclasses, e-bike excursions, trekking, and tasting menus in restaurants have dedicated costs indicated in the official program.
Book masterclasses and excursions in advance, as they have limited spots. Wear comfortable shoes for the cobblestone streets of the village. Take advantage of the visit to discover the Rocca Aldobrandesca and local museums, which are open during the festival.
