About Strazzata Festival
On November 7th and 8th, 2026, Castel Lagopesole celebrates the strazzata, the famous pepper-scented focaccia from Avigliano. In the shadow of Frederick II's castle, the festival offers tastings of strazzata and other Lucanian flavors, workshops, guided tours of the Swabian manor, and nature walks, in a celebration that weaves together the taste, history, culture, and traditions of the Lucanian people.
The strazzata and Castel Lagopesole
In Castel Lagopesole, a charming hamlet of Avigliano in the province of Potenza, the queen of the table is the strazzata: a traditional Lucanian focaccia scented with pepper, a symbol of Avigliano's gastronomy and a Slow Food Presidium. A festival is dedicated to it, enlivening the village dominated by the famous Swabian castle during the autumn.

The heart of the festival is the tasting of strazzata and other local specialties, alongside various food stands.
In the shadow of Frederick II's castle
The setting is the unique Castle of Frederick II of Swabia, one of the most imposing manors in Basilicata, located near the Coste del Castello Reserve.
An autumn appointment
The Strazzata Festival reached its 26th edition in 2025 and is one of the most beloved autumn gastronomic events in the Potenza area. Visiting it means combining the pleasure of a genuine local product with the discovery of a medieval village of great historical and scenic charm.

The Strazzata Festival returns to Castel Lagopesole, a district of Avigliano, on Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8, 2026, in the village overlooked by the castle of Frederick II.

How to get there: Castel Lagopesole, a hamlet of Avigliano, is located along the SS 93/raccordo for Potenza-Melfi; the village develops around the Swabian castle.
Admission: free access to the festival; paid consumption at the stands, possible tickets for guided tours of the castle.
Accommodation: B&Bs and farmhouses between Avigliano and Vulture; Potenza is about 30 km away.
