About Strazzata Festival

Between late October and the All Saints' Day bridge, Castel Lagopesole celebrates the strazzata, the famous Avigliano focaccia flavored with pepper. In the shadow of Frederick II's castle, the festival offers tastings of strazzata and Lucanian flavors, workshops, guided tours of the Swabian manor, and nature walks, in a celebration that blends taste, history, and tradition.

The Strazzata and Castel Lagopesole

In Castel Lagopesole, a charming hamlet of Avigliano in the province of Potenza, the queen of the table is the strazzata: a traditional Lucanian focaccia baked in a wood-fired oven, flavored with local pepper, a symbol of Avigliano's gastronomy. A festival dedicated to it enlivens the village dominated by the famous Swabian castle every year, between late October and early November.

Tastings and Lucanian Flavors

The heart of the festival is the tasting of strazzata and other local specialties, prepared according to ancient recipes. Alongside the food stands, there are cooking workshops for families and children, introducing youngsters to the flavors and techniques of peasant tradition.

In the Shadow of Frederick II's Castle

The setting is the unique Castle of Frederick II of Swabia, one of the most imposing manors in Basilicata. During the festival, guided tours of the castle and walks in the nearby Riserva delle Coste del Castello are organized, while music, folk dances, and craft exhibitions complete the festive atmosphere.

An Autumn Appointment

With a long-standing tradition, the Sagra della Strazzata is one of the most beloved autumn gastronomic events in the Potenza area. Visiting it means combining the pleasure of a genuine local product with the discovery of a medieval village of great historical and scenic charm.
