The queen of the Murgia winter celebrated in the historic center of Minervino Murge
Some products tell the story of a territory better than any postcard. In Minervino Murge, a village overlooking the Alta Murgia in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani, that product is the cima di rapa (turnip top): a humble and generous vegetable that becomes the absolute star of local tables during the cold months. The Cima di Rapa Festival was created precisely to celebrate this excellence, recognized as a Traditional Agri-food Product (PAT) and protected by a municipal designation (De.Co.).
The cima di rapa from Minervino is not just any vegetable. The hilly lands of the Alta Murgia, the climate, and the wisdom of local farmers give it an unmistakable crunch and flavor, so much so that it fetches higher prices on the market compared to other origins. Its uniqueness also lies in the harvesting: farmers hand-cut the most tender stems and tie them into bunches like flower bouquets, removing the larger leaves and tough parts. A tradition documented for over a century, rooted in the town's agricultural economy.
During the festival, the streets and squares of the historic center of Minervino Murge transform into a large open-air laboratory of taste. The stands offer traditional dishes prepared with cima di rapa as the star, from the famous orecchiette con le cime di rapa to rural recipes passed down from generation to generation. There is no shortage of markets featuring local products and crafts, along with live music, with local bands accompanying the festivities until evening.
The event is part of the "Tradizioni di Puglia" series, a calendar of events promoted by the Associazione Volontari per Minervino '96 in collaboration with the municipal administration, which marks the Minervino year with appointments dedicated to local products and customs, from the Panzerotto Festival to the Grape Festival. The Cima di Rapa Festival ideally closes this cycle, bringing the authentic taste of the Murgia winter to the table.
Visiting the festival is also a way to get to know Minervino Murge, the "Balcony of Puglia" overlooking the Alta Murgia National Park, amidst rural landscapes, sheep tracks, and genuine flavors. An event that combines food and wine, conviviality, and community pride, perfect for those looking for the most authentic Puglia far from the beaten tourist paths.
The Cima di Rapa Festival returns to Minervino Murge on November 28 and 29, 2026, confirming itself as the winter appointment dedicated to the PAT product that gives the festival its name. The event is part of the "Tradizioni di Puglia" series and will, as usual, animate the historic center with tastings, markets, and live music.
At the moment, the organizers have not yet released the full program for the 2026 edition: times, stand menus, and musical guests will be communicated in the weeks preceding the event through the channels of the Associazione Volontari per Minervino '96.
