The autumn chestnut festival in the village of Atella
When the leaves turn yellow and the forests of the Vulture region offer their fruits, Atella, in the province of Potenza, celebrates one of the symbolic products of its autumn: the chestnut. The Chestnut Festival, organized by Pro Loco Vitalba, transforms the historic center into a large market of taste and a meeting point for the community and visitors.
Along the village streets and in Piazza Matteotti, food stalls multiply with chestnut-based specialties: from the unmissable roasted chestnuts to typical sweets, to traditional peasant recipes prepared according to methods passed down through generations. The aroma of roasted chestnuts accompanies the stroll among the stalls.
The festival is not just about gastronomy: live music, street bands, and entertainment for all ages liven up the two days, creating a warm and convivial atmosphere. It is a celebration designed for families, the curious, and tradition enthusiasts, where food becomes an occasion for meeting.
Now in its many editions, the Chestnut Festival is an opportunity to promote local agricultural products and the Lucanian culture linked to this fruit. Visiting it means discovering an authentic corner of the Vulture-Melfese area, amidst medieval villages, forests, and the genuine flavors of a generous land.
For 2026, the Chestnut Festival of Atella is expected in October, following the autumn tradition of the event curated by Pro Loco Vitalba. The formula with food stalls, roasted chestnuts, sweets, and live music in the historic center is confirmed.
The detailed program with dates, times, and musical guests will be announced in the coming weeks by Pro Loco Vitalba.
Based on previous editions, the festival includes the opening of food stalls with chestnut-based specialties (roasted chestnuts, typical sweets), street bands, live music, and entertainment for all ages along the village streets and in Piazza Matteotti.
