The fun run through Racconigi and its Royal Park
StraRacconigi is one of the most beloved events in the sporting and social calendar of Racconigi, a town in the Province of Cuneo, in southern Piedmont. It is a non-competitive fun run of approximately 6 kilometers, open to walkers, families, children, and runners of all levels: it is not about the stopwatch, but the joy of moving together during a festive morning. The event is traditionally held on June 2nd, coinciding with Republic Day, turning the public holiday into a large community gathering.
What makes StraRacconigi special is its route, which weaves through the town and the unique setting of the Racconigi Castle Park, a Savoy residence and UNESCO World Heritage site. The start is set in Piazza Carlo Alberto, and the course winds through the park's tree-lined avenues and the city streetsโvia Stramiano, via Regina Margherita, via Roda, via Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, and via Prato dei Cornettiโfinishing under the arch dedicated to Bruno Garello. In case of bad weather, an alternative route along the castle walls is planned.
The event is dedicated to the memory of Bruno Garello, founder and historic president of Atletica Racconigi, who passed away in 2020 and remains a symbolic figure for local athletics. Each edition coincides with the Bruno Garello Memorial, a heartfelt tribute from a community that knew him as a tireless running enthusiast.
StraRacconigi is also a social occasion: at the end of the run, in via Costa, there is refreshments, awards for participants and the largest groups, prize draws, and the traditional raffle with bicycles up for grabs. A formula that makes the day a great meeting point for the entire citizenry.
The event is organized by Atletica Racconigi together with the Municipality of Racconigi, in collaboration with the Piedmont Museum Center and with the approval of the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL).
The 2026 edition of StraRacconigi celebrated its 18th edition, coinciding with the 5th Bruno Garello Memorial, on Tuesday, June 2nd. The format of the non-competitive fun run of approximately 6 kilometers was confirmed, with the meeting point and start in Piazza Carlo Alberto and the finish under the arch dedicated to Bruno Garello. What made the day unforgettable was the victory of Giulio Garello, son of the founder of Atletica Racconigi to whom the race is dedicated: a triumph full of emotion, experienced with the warmth and closeness of the entire community.
In case of bad weather, an alternative route along the castle walls, via XX Settembre, was planned.
The victory of Giulio Garello (born 1998), son of Bruno Garello to whom the race is dedicated, was the most emotional moment of the edition. The public success was confirmed with the technical t-shirt reserved for the first 2000 registrants.
Racconigi can be reached by car via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Carmagnola or Marene exit) and the SS20 road. By train, the Racconigi station is on the Turin-Cuneo line, just a few minutes' walk from the center and Piazza Carlo Alberto.
