The autumn farmers' market in Piazza Città, Vipiteno
The Harvest Festival (known in German as Herbstfest) is the event that concludes the summer farmers' market season in Vipiteno/Sterzing, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol. The event takes place in the historic Piazza Città (Stadtplatz), in the shadow of the iconic Twelve Tower, the medieval heart of one of the most beautiful villages in the Upper Isarco Valley.
The festival spans two days. On Friday, the final farmers' market of the season takes place: from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, local farmers showcase their zero-mile products. On Saturday, starting at 10:00 AM, the square comes alive with the main Harvest Festival, which remains open throughout the day.
Among the stalls, you will find the best of local production: from honey to herbal teas from the Upper Isarco Valley, from homemade bread and baked goods to fresh vegetables and organic wines. Local farmers prepare their traditional specialties, such as Tirtlan (fried dough discs filled with spinach or cabbage) and the famous Vipiteno doughnuts.
The Harvest Festival is, above all, a triumph of autumn flavors. You cannot miss the Keschtn (roasted chestnuts) that scent the entire square, along with Krapfen, doughnuts, fresh apple juice, local sausage with sauerkraut, and smoked lamb. A delicious journey that tells the story of the farming cuisine of the Wipptal and South Tyrol.
Entertainment is provided by South Tyrolean folk music groups, who enliven the square with traditional melodies. The intimate atmosphere of Piazza Città, set among the colorful facades of historic buildings and the Twelve Tower, makes the festival an authentic experience, far from the main tourist crowds.
Organized by Vipiteno Tourism, the Harvest Festival represents the moment when the community bids farewell to the season and celebrates the bond between the town and its countryside. It is the ideal opportunity to discover local crafts, taste regional delicacies, and immerse yourself in the farming traditions of the Upper Isarco Valley, in one of the most characteristic squares in Trentino-South Tyrol.
The Vipiteno Harvest Festival returns on October 30 and 31, 2026, in Piazza Città, in the heart of the Upper Isarco Valley. On Friday, October 30, the last farmers' market of the season (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM) precedes the festival, which kicks off on Saturday, October 31, at 10:00 AM and continues throughout the day.
As per tradition, the stalls offer roasted chestnuts (Keschtn), Tirtlan, Krapfen, Vipiteno doughnuts, local sausage with sauerkraut, smoked lamb, honey, organic wines, and fresh apple juice. Musical entertainment with South Tyrolean folk groups will also be featured.
