Two days of cellars, trekking, and tastings in the Savio Valley
Created to enhance the wine-growing vocation of the Savio Valley, Passi e Parole di Vino is a spring event that combines food and wine, hiking, and slow tourism in Mercato Saraceno, a small municipality in the province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. The idea is simple and evocative: walk or cycle through the hills cultivated with vineyards, stopping at wineries to taste local wines accompanied by typical local products.
The event is organized by DMC I Percorsi del Savio, the destination management company promoting tourism in the valley, and it grows year by year: since its first edition in 2024, attendance has increased to over 1,500 participants, significant numbers for a village in the Romagna hinterland. The format alternates convivial moments in the historic center with activities spread across the surrounding countryside.
On Saturday, the event focuses on the heart of the town: Piazza Mazzini hosts the market of excellent producers, guided tastings of local wines in collaboration with the AIS – Italian Sommelier Association, workshops, live music, and a photographic treasure hunt. In the evening, the historic Palazzo Dolcini becomes the setting for a gourmet dinner prepared by local chefs, paired with local wines.
Sunday is dedicated to exploration: with the tasting kit, you can discover the wineries in the area, reachable on foot along the hilly trails or by e-bike, in a true food and wine trekking experience with tasting stops along the way.
Six wineries open their doors to visitors during the event, including Cantina Braschi, Tenuta Casali, Podere Monte Paderno, Castello Montesasso, Tenuta Santa Lucia, and Podere Vertaglia. A network of businesses that showcase Romagna's grape varieties, from Sangiovese to Albana, in a landscape of hills still largely undiscovered by mass tourism.
Passi e Parole di Vino is now one of the most interesting wine tourism offerings in the Cesena Apennines, successfully combining the quality of Savio Valley wines with the pleasure of discovering them on foot.
The third edition of Passi e Parole di Vino confirmed the event's growing success, with over 1,500 participants over the two days. The event, designed and organized by DMC I Percorsi del Savio, animated Mercato Saraceno and the hills of the Savio Valley with tastings, excursions, and convivial moments, in an edition described by organizers as "constantly growing since its first edition".
On Saturday afternoon, Piazza Mazzini hosted the producers' market and guided AIS tastings, while in the evening, Palazzo Dolcini welcomed the gourmet dinner. Sunday was dedicated to winery visits and walking and e-bike routes through the vineyards.
Welcome point and wineries open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Wineries involved: Cantina Braschi, Tenuta Casali, Podere Monte Paderno, Castello Montesasso, Tenuta Santa Lucia, Podere Vertaglia.
In case of bad weather, the event was scheduled to be postponed to Sunday, April 26, 2026.
Mercato Saraceno is located along the SS3 bis E45, about 20 km from Cesena. By train, the nearest station is Cesena (Bologna–Rimini line); in past editions, a shuttle service has been available from the Cesena train station.
The tasting kit (glass, tasting tickets, and map) costs €15.00, available for purchase online or on-site. The dinner at Palazzo Dolcini and guided excursions require mandatory reservation due to limited spots.
