The Sommernachtskonzert der Bürgerkapelle Lana is one of the most anticipated musical events of the summer in Lana, a significant town in the Merano area of the Bolzano province, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. On a late August evening, the Rathausplatz (Town Hall Square) transforms into an open-air stage where South Tyrolean band tradition meets the public in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.

One evening, two ensembles

The evening is structured as a double concert. Opening the show is the Jugendkapelle Lana, the youth band that brings together the town's young musicians and serves as the nursery for the town band. This is followed by the Bürgerkapelle Lana, a historic ensemble of about eighty musicians, which performs a varied repertoire ranging from traditional band music and marches to symphonic band pieces and lighter, modern selections.

A deep-rooted tradition in Lana

The Bürgerkapelle Lana is one of the community's most established cultural institutions: in 2026, it celebrated its 72nd spring concert (Frühjahrskonzert), a testament to a long and uninterrupted musical history. Alongside the major spring concert at the Kursaal in Merano, the summer event in Rathausplatz is the moment when the band presents itself to its home town in an informal setting, highlighting Lana's historic center and the social role of village music in South Tyrol.

An event for everyone

The Sommernachtskonzert is designed as a community celebration open to both residents and tourists: admission is free, and the square, with its local cafes and arcades, welcomes families, enthusiasts, and curious visitors for an evening of music under the stars. It is the ideal opportunity to discover the vibrant tradition of South Tyrolean brass bands, which are deeply linked to the identity of their towns.
