About Sicani Cinema Experience
Cinema rediscovering the Sicilian hinterland
Sicani Cinema Experience is a film festival hosted in Cammarata and the neighboring town of San Giovanni Gemini, two charming villages overlooking the Sicani Mountains in the province of Agrigento (Sicily). Organized by the Spazio Giovani Generazioni Association, the festival was founded with a clear vision: to bring high-quality independent cinema away from major urban centers, turning the province into a vibrant laboratory for culture and cinematic resistance.
Screenings are held outdoors, set against the picturesque squares and historic corners of the town, offering spectators three evenings of films, meetings, and debates. This is more than just a film review; the festival encourages an active cinematic experience, fostering direct dialogue with authors, directors, and performers.
The two competitions: Sicani Short and Sicani OFF
The competitive heart of the event is divided into two complementary sections:
- Sicani Short — an international competition for professionally produced and distributed short films with a classic narrative style.
- Sicani OFF — a parallel section dedicated to experimental, self-produced, or independently distributed short films.
Submissions arrive from dozens of countries via the FilmFreeway platform, confirming the festival's international reach despite the intimate scale of its host territory.
Talks, meetings, and workshops
Beyond the screenings, Sicani Cinema Experience dedicates significant space to talks, seminars, and workshops featuring guests from the film industry. In its first two editions, the festival recorded over 2,000 attendees and more than 150 entries, hosting recognized talents of Italian cinema.
A festival for the territory
The third edition is supported by the National Film Academy and UCCA (Union of ARCI Film Clubs). Admission to all screenings and events is free, in line with the goal of making quality cinema accessible to everyone and culturally enlivening the Sicani Mountain villages during the summer.

Sicani Cinema Experience 2026 — Third Edition
The third edition of the Sicani Cinema Experience is held from August 5th to 7th, 2026 in Cammarata, in the Sicani Mountains area of the Agrigento province. The dates were initially announced for July 17-19, then moved to August by the organizers due to logistical and organizational requirements, ensuring the best possible execution of the event.
The edition is promoted by the Spazio Giovani Generazioni Association in collaboration with the National Film Academy and UCCA. The two competition sections are confirmed: Sicani Short, an international competition for professionally distributed classic narrative short films, and Sicani OFF, dedicated to experimental and independent works, with submissions open via FilmFreeway.

The confirmed structure of the event includes, over the three evenings (August 5, 6, and 7, 2026):

Getting there
Cammarata and San Giovanni Gemini are located in the Agrigento hinterland, in the Sicani Mountains. By car, they can be reached via the SS189 Palermo–Agrigento road. The nearest airport is Palermo Falcone-Borsellino (approximately a 1 hour and 30-minute drive).

All screenings, talks, and workshops are free of charge.
