A multicultural festival of taste and global connection in Castelbuono
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Sapori Senza Frontiere is the multicultural festival that brings Castelbuono to life every autumn. A stunning medieval village in the province of Palermo, it is tucked away within the Madonie Park. Promoted by the Castelbuono municipal administration, the event was created with the explicit goal of building bridges of dialogue and exchange between diverse cultures, peoples, and religions, based on the belief that a culture of integration and solidarity is essential for the future of humanity.
The heart of the event is the grand multicultural market: along the streets and in the squares of the historic center, foreign delegations set up food stalls where visitors can sample typical dishes and products from numerous countries. Recent editions have featured communities from Senegal, Brazil, Hungary, Tunisia, Palestine, Ethiopia, and Sri Lanka, each sharing their own recipes, flavors, and artisanal traditions. Alongside the food, there are exhibitions, displays of traditional crafts, and embroidery, all in an atmosphere of mutual curiosity and exchange.
The program alternates between gastronomic experiences and artistic offerings: live music featuring international artists, from Brazilian bossa nova to African percussion jam sessions, and evening DJ sets. There is no shortage of acrobatic shows, dance performances, and folklore from the guest groups, which enliven the squares until late at night.
Sapori Senza Frontiere pays great attention to families and children, with shows and intercultural workshops designed for the little ones. To round off the event, a conference is held each year dedicated to themes of hospitality, integration, and peace, with the participation of local administrators, associations, and organizations such as Slow Food Sicilia.
Visiting Sapori Senza Frontiere is also the perfect opportunity to discover Castelbuono, one of Sicily's most beautiful villages, dominated by the imposing Castello dei Ventimiglia and famous for its confectionery tradition and the 'manna' of the Madonie. The festival, included in the municipal calendar of events, thus combines the promotion of the Madonie territory with the fostering of an open, plural, and supportive culture in the heart of the Sicilian Region.
The Municipality of Castelbuono has not yet announced the dates and program for the 2026 edition of Sapori Senza Frontiere. Following the trend of previous editions, the event is expected to take place in the autumn, featuring the usual multicultural market with international food stalls, live music, dance, and children's activities. Updates on dates and the program will be communicated through the official municipal channels.
Castelbuono is located in the Madonie Park, in the province of Palermo. By car: take the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway, exit at Castelbuono/Cefalù, then follow the SS113 and provincial roads inland. By train: Castelbuono station is on the Palermo-Messina line, connected to the town center by local buses.
Access to the festival area and performances is generally free; food tastings at the stalls are paid for individually. Events typically run from the morning (around 11:00-12:00) until late at night.
We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for walking through the historic center and combining your visit with a tour of the Castello dei Ventimiglia and a taste of the local confectionery specialties.
