The festival celebrating Nissoria's signature pastry, blending almonds, tradition, and Enna's local identity
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of Central Sicily, in the small town of Nissoria nestled among the hills of the Enna province, the Rametta Festival comes to life every autumn. Launched in 2025, the event is dedicated to the pastry of the same name, which has represented the identity of the Nissoria community for generations. In just a few editions, the festival has become one of the most cherished events in the local autumn calendar.
The rametta is a traditional pastry made with toasted local almonds and sugar, enriched with lemon glaze and, depending on family recipes, cinnamon, cloves, and colorful sprinkles. Its origins are deeply symbolic: it was once prepared for engagements and weddings, where the white glaze evoked the bride's veil and the colorful pralines wished the couple joy and prosperity. Today, the rametta is primarily prepared during the Christmas season and cherished as a culinary heritage of the community.
During the festival, the historic center of Nissoria comes alive with stalls and booths dedicated to the authentic flavors of the Sicilian hinterland. Offerings include tastings of fresh ricotta, honey, mulled wine, olive oil, sausage, and bread, alongside, of course, the star of the show: the rametta in all its variations.
The Rametta Festival is the result of the work of the Municipality of Nissoria together with the San Giuseppe Senior Day Center and numerous local volunteers, in collaboration with the Rocca di Cerere Geopark. The first edition also featured a parade by the Rocca di Sarro historical pageant, which added a truly evocative atmosphere to the ancient streets of the village. It is a festival that unites generations and aims to promote this typical pastry as an ambassador for Nissoria and the entire Enna area.
Visiting the Rametta Festival means immersing yourself in the most authentic Sicilian autumn, far from mass tourism circuits. Amidst the scent of almonds, folk music, and the warm welcome of a community proud of its roots, the event offers a unique opportunity to discover a little-known but charming corner of Inland Sicily.
The 2026 edition of the Rametta Festival is expected to return in autumn in Nissoria, in the province of Enna. Precise dates and the detailed program have not yet been made official: however, the organization has expressed its desire to confirm the event as an annual appointment, once again highlighting the local signature pastry and the gastronomic excellence of the territory. For updates, please refer to the official channels of the Municipality of Nissoria and the Festival.
Nissoria is located in the province of Enna, along the state road connecting Enna to Leonforte and Agira. By car, it can be reached from the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (Mulinello or Agira exits), continuing towards the hinterland. The nearest train station is Leonforte-Pirato, while the reference airports are Catania-Fontanarossa and Palermo-Punta Raisi.
The event takes place in the historic town center with free admission. Tastings and local products can be purchased at individual stalls.
The event is held in autumn: comfortable clothing suitable for cool evenings in the hinterland is recommended. For updated dates and the program, please refer to the official channels of the Municipality of Nissoria.
