The sprint triathlon race in the crystal-clear waters of San Vito Lo Capo, in memory of Roberto Miceli
The San Vito Lo Capo Sprint Triathlon – Roberto Miceli Memorial is one of the premier sporting events on the calendar in San Vito Lo Capo, in the province of Trapani, Sicily. The race challenges athletes and enthusiasts in a postcard-perfect setting: swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the gulf dominated by Mount Monaco, cycling along fast city circuits, and running through the charming streets of the seaside village, closed to traffic for the occasion.
The competition is held over the sprint distance: 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling, and 5 kilometers of running. The swimming leg takes place in the sea off the promenade, while the cycling and running legs wind through a city circuit closed to vehicular traffic. The event is valid for the FITRI National Ranking (Italian Triathlon Federation) and attracts around 200 athletes from all over Italy every year, including a strong female contingent.
The race is held in memory of Roberto Miceli and is part of the Magna Grecia Trophy. The event is organized by the Triathlon Team Trapani in collaboration with the Aquarius Nuoto club, with the support of local hospitality businesses and the municipal administration. Over the years, the event has grown to become a benchmark for triathlon in Southern Italy, successfully blending sport, regional promotion, and hospitality.
The race weekend features youth category trials (minicuccioli, cuccioli, esordienti, ragazzi, youth, and junior, both male and female) on the first day, followed by the main Sprint race on the final day. The event concludes in a spirit of conviviality with the traditional couscous party, a symbolic dish of the Trapani gastronomic tradition, which brings together athletes, supporters, and organizers.
Competing in the triathlon in San Vito Lo Capo means racing in one of the most beloved spots on the Sicilian coast: white sandy beaches, turquoise sea, and the famous lighthouse provide the backdrop for a race that is also an opportunity to discover the village and the surrounding area. The autumn date allows visitors to experience the town in a quieter season, with a mild climate and sea that is often still warm enough for swimming.
The San Vito Lo Capo Sprint Triathlon – Roberto Miceli Memorial returns in 2026 with dates confirmed for October 17 and 18. The event, associated with the Magna Grecia Trophy and valid for the FITRI National Ranking, will take place in the usual setting of the gulf and the village streets, over the sprint distance of 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling, and 5 kilometers of running.
As per tradition, the weekend is expected to be divided between trials reserved for youth categories and the main race, concluding with the couscous party. The final program, including start times, admitted categories, and registration procedures, will be communicated by the organizers closer to the event.
San Vito Lo Capo can be reached by car from the A29 motorway (Castellammare del Golfo exit), continuing along the SS187 and SP16.
