The Sicilian festival dedicated to durum wheat pasta and ancient grains
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Macaria - Pasta Festival is the major food and wine celebration that animates the Peppino Impastato Seafront and the Piazzale del Mediterraneo in Terrasini, a renowned seaside resort in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily, every autumn. For a few days, the seaside village becomes the Sicilian capital of pasta, celebrating a food that is a symbol of the island's identity and the Mediterranean diet.
The core of the festival is the promotion of ancient Sicilian grains — native varieties such as Tumminia, Perciasacchi, Russello, and Maiorca — and the rediscovery of the island's centuries-old dry pasta tradition. Macaria was created to restore Sicily's primacy in pasta production, starting from local wheat and the region's artisanal pasta makers, who exhibit and sell their historic shapes: from Trapani-style busiata to Corleone-style lasagna, and even the five-hole pasta from Catania.
Access to the exhibition area and cooking shows is free, with limited seating for culinary events. The event, supported by the Municipality of Terrasini along with regional bodies, the Metropolitan City, and the University of Palermo, combines gastronomy with culture, telling the story of the deep bond between the Sicilian territory, wheat, and the art of the table. Macaria has become a benchmark for the Sicilian gastronomic autumn, attracting thousands of visitors to the Terrasini seafront.
The 2026 edition of Macaria - Pasta Festival in Terrasini, in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, is expected during the usual autumn period, traditionally held between late October and the first days of November. At the moment, the organizers have not yet announced the official dates or the detailed program.
As in previous editions, a rich calendar of cooking shows with Sicilian chefs, tastings based on ancient grain pasta, workshops, and evening concerts on the seafront is expected. To find out the final dates and program, we recommend following the festival's official website and social media channels.
Terrasini is located about 30 km from Palermo, along the Tyrrhenian coast. By car, it can be reached via the A29 motorway (Palermo-Mazara del Vallo), taking the Cinisi-Terrasini exit. Palermo Falcone-Borsellino Airport is just a few kilometers away. By train, the Cinisi-Terrasini station is served by the regional line.
Access to the exhibition area and cooking shows is free; seating for culinary events is limited. Events generally take place from late afternoon until late evening on the Peppino Impastato Seafront.
We recommend checking the official website and the festival's social media channels for the updated program and to book workshops and tastings.
