Palermo City Olympic Triathlon

An Olympic challenge in the heart of Mondello

The Palermo City Olympic Triathlon has become a staple of the Sicilian capital's autumn sports calendar. Organized by A.S.D. Extrema under the patronage of the Municipality of Palermo and sanctioned by the Italian Triathlon Federation (FITRI), the race brings hundreds of athletes to the seaside village of Mondello, all ready to test themselves on the classic Olympic distance.

The course: swim, bike, and run

The competition follows the full Olympic distance, divided into three segments that traverse some of Palermo's most scenic locations:

• Swim — 1500 meters in the waters of the Gulf of Mondello, with start and finish near Piazza Valdesi;
• Cycling — 40 kilometers with a transfer from the seafront to the Parco della Favorita, where athletes complete five laps along the tree-lined avenues of the royal park;
• Run — 10 flat kilometers on the Mondello seafront, divided into four laps.

The transition area and the event headquarters are set up in Piazza Valdesi, the beating heart of the seaside district.

Mondello, an exceptional setting

Competing in a triathlon in Mondello means racing in one of Sicily's most beloved settings: white sandy beaches, the turquoise waters of the gulf dominated by Monte Pellegrino, and the Parco della Favorita, the vast green lung at the gates of Palermo. For the occasion, the Municipality implements temporary traffic closures on Viale Margherita di Savoia and the roads of the Favorita, returning the streets to the athletes and the public.

A growing event

Now in its tenth year, the event has established itself as one of the most important triathlon races in Sicily, capable of attracting enthusiasts from across the island and the mainland. The event combines competitive racing with local promotion, showcasing Mondello and Palermo as a capital of outdoor sports during the autumn season.
