The evening road race that lights up the center of Villafalletto
The San Luigi Night Run - Remembering Walter is the most anticipated running event of the summer in Villafalletto, a small town in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. Every year, during the patronal festivities dedicated to San Luigi, the streets of the historic center light up to host an evening road race that combines sport, tradition, and community spirit. The name "Remembering Walter" links the event to the affectionate memory that the Podistica Buschese wanted to honor, giving the race a significance that goes beyond pure competition.
The race takes place on a city circuit of approximately five kilometers, winding through the streets and squares of Villafalletto's historic center and completed over several laps under the evening lights. The meeting point is in front of the town hall, the symbolic heart of the village, from where the various categories start. It is a flat, fast city track, ideal both for competitive runners looking for a good time and for those who run for the pleasure of participating. Over the years, the official distance has fluctuated between 4.9 and 5 kilometers, depending on the circuit configuration.
The San Luigi Night Run is a qualifying event for the U.S. Acli running championships and, in some editions, for the provincial individual and youth club road running championship. This dual competitive value attracts numerous clubs from the Cuneo area and the entire Piedmont region, including the organizing Podistica Buschese, Atletica Saluzzo, Podistica Valle Varaita, and many others. Alongside the competitive race, there are youth categories, with dozens of boys and girls enlivening the starts dedicated to the youngest runners.
The race is part of the patronal celebrations of San Luigi, a moment of great involvement for the Villafalletto community. The nighttime setting of the event creates a unique atmosphere: the illuminated streets, the crowd lining the course, and the encouragement for the athletes turn a simple road race into a true village festival. At the end of the race, there are awards ceremonies, refreshments, and social moments that strengthen the bond between sport and local tradition.
Whether you are an expert runner, a running enthusiast, or just curious, the San Luigi Night Run in Villafalletto is the perfect invitation to enjoy a summer evening of sport and conviviality in the heart of Piedmont.
