About Grilled Ham Festival

In the small Municipality of Saint-Oyen, along the historic Gran San Bernardo route, the Grilled Ham Festival takes place every summer, dedicated to the only cooked ham produced in the Aosta Valley. Three days of taste and tradition centered on this Aosta Valley agri-food product: brined with salt, spices, and honey, cooked for 24 hours, and then roasted over a wood-fired oven, basted with local craft beer. A food stand, music, competitions, and entertainment complete one of the most characteristic festivals of the upper valley.

The only cooked ham in the Aosta Valley

The Grilled Ham Festival celebrates in Saint-Oyen, in the Gran San Bernardo valley, a unique product: grilled ham, the first and only cooked ham produced in the Aosta Valley. Recognized as a traditional agri-food product, it is the gastronomic symbol of the town and gives its name to this historic event.

How grilled ham is made

The preparation of the ham is a small ritual: the leg is placed in brine with salt, spices, and honey, cooked for 24 hours by steaming, and finally roasted on a spit in a wood-fired oven, basted with local gluten-free craft beer. The result is a fragrant and tender ham, traditionally served with polenta, green beans, or boiled potatoes.

A village festival of taste and sport

During the three days of the festival, the ham can be tasted in the food pavilion and in the town's restaurants. The event, organized by the Pro Loco of Saint-Oyen, alternates convivial moments, dance evenings, and numerous sports and recreational initiatives: ultra-marathon, fishing competitions, petanque and padel tournaments, as well as entertainment for children.

Saint-Oyen and the Gran San Bernardo route

The Municipality of Saint-Oyen is located along the ancient road leading to the Gran San Bernardo Pass, a crossroads for pilgrims and travelers for centuries. In this high mountain setting, in the Aosta Valley Region, the festival has become an unmissable summer event.
