About Walser Festival

The Gressoney Walser Festival is the major event celebrating the identity of the Walser community of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, at the foot of Monte Rosa. A widespread calendar of events that weaves together music, Germanic tradition, excursions, sport, food and wine, entertainment, and art, spread throughout the year across the town's squares and venues. From Carnival entertainment to après-ski in the square, from summer experiences to the Walser Nacht, the festival accompanies residents and tourists in discovering a unique Alpine culture.

A festival for Walser culture

The Gressoney Walser Festival is the multidisciplinary event that, in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, focuses on the identity of the Walser community, the minority of Germanic origin who settled centuries ago at the foot of Monte Rosa, in the Lys Valley. Organized by PM Promotion, the festival offers a widespread program that runs throughout the year with various events.

Many facets, one territory

The festival brings together very different disciplines and experiences: events, food and wine, excursions, Walser tradition, sport, entertainment, and art. A way to showcase the territory from all angles, from the oldest customs to contemporary offerings, enhancing the language, architecture, and flavors of this Alpine community.

From winter squares to summer

The calendar covers different times of the year. In winter, between February and early spring, traditional games and entertainment for families, après-ski with DJ sets in the square, and Carnival events in the town center, between Obre Platz and Villa Deslex. In summer, experiences, excursions, and events dedicated to discovering Walser culture, culminating in the Walser Nacht, the night dedicated to the community's traditions.

Gressoney-Saint-Jean, Walser capital

The heart of the Lys Valley, Gressoney-Saint-Jean (Aosta Valley) is one of the symbolic places of Walser culture in Italy, along with Gressoney-La-Trinité and Issime. The festival is a valuable opportunity to immerse oneself in this heritage, made up of a still-living Germanic language, traditional costumes, and a deep connection with the mountains.
