The Saturday market of mountain producers, in the Zer Miel garden with Monte Rosa in the background
The Samstag Märt – literally "Saturday market" in the Walser language – is the weekly event dedicated to mountain agriculture in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, in the Lys Valley (Aosta Valley). It is held in the Zer Miel garden, a short walk from Castel Savoia, with the Monte Rosa massif closing the horizon.
Nine local producers from the Lys Valley participate in the market, offering the fruits of their labor: vegetables, fruit, jams, honey, artisanal bread, alpine cheeses (tome) and sweets. Zero-kilometer shopping that tells the story of the effort and quality of high-altitude agriculture.
The Samstag Märt is not just a point of sale: in 2023 it became part of the international Slow Food network as a "Mercato della Terra" (Earth Market), and in 2024 it received the Bandiera Verde (Green Flag) from Legambiente. The idea behind it is "edible culture," moving from simple agricultural production to a broader concept made of ancient peasant knowledge, landscape care, and producer passion. It is organized by the association Paysage à manger.
Shopping at the Samstag Märt also means enjoying a morning in one of the most beautiful corners of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, between the garden, the nearby Castel Savoia – summer residence of Queen Margherita – and the panorama of Monte Rosa. An experience that combines taste, nature, and community.
The 2026 edition of the Samstag Märt confirms the Saturday morning appointment (10:00 AM–1:00 PM) in the Zer Miel garden in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, from June until the first weekend of November. The nine producers from the Lys Valley offer products from mountain agriculture – vegetables, fruit, honey, jams, alpine cheeses, bread, and sweets – in a zero-kilometer market recognized as a Slow Food Earth Market.
For sale: vegetables, fruit, jams, honey, artisanal bread, alpine cheeses (tome), and sweets. The market is part of the international Slow Food network (Earth Market since 2023) and is organized by the association Paysage à manger. The precise schedule of Saturdays in 2026 will be updated by the organizers.
