Lighting of the communal oven and the bread festival of Charvensod
Lo Pan de Tsarvensoù — "the bread of Charvensod" in the local Franco-Provençal dialect — is the festival dedicated to the bread-making tradition in the municipality of Charvensod, in the Province of Aosta. The heart of the day is the lighting of the communal oven in the hamlet of Château, in the main village, around which the community gathers.
The festival marks the stages of traditional bread making: the oven is lit early in the morning, local producers arrive in the afternoon, and then the sale of freshly baked sweet and savoury bread begins. The Pro Loco of Charvensod offers a snack with chestnuts and local products, while the folk group La Gaie Famille accompanies the day with music and tradition.
The event is organised by the Municipal Administration of Charvensod together with the Pro Loco. The fact that the bread tradition is still deeply rooted is also confirmed by the activity around the communal oven: in March 2026, for example, local schoolchildren rediscovered the art of bread making right at the village oven, in a workshop that combined learning and community. Lo Pan de Tsarvensoù is part of the broader Aosta Valley bread culture, which every autumn is also expressed in the cross-border circuit of rye bread of the Alps.
The 2026 edition of Lo Pan de Tsarvensoù is expected in autumn, in line with the custom of previous editions. The exact date for 2026 has not yet been published at the time of writing this sheet. The bread tradition in Charvensod remains very much alive: in March 2026, local schoolchildren rediscovered the art of bread making at the communal oven, a sign of the vitality of this heritage. The programme will follow the traditional structure, with the lighting of the oven, the production and sale of sweet and savoury bread, the snack with chestnuts offered by the Pro Loco, and the entertainment by the folk group La Gaie Famille.
The programme and date for the 2026 edition have not yet been published. The day normally follows this structure, based on the 2024 edition:
Updates are published on the channels of the Municipality of Charvensod and the Pro Loco.
