Three days of Cimbrian celebration in the heart of Roana
The Saint Justina Festival is the patronal feast of Roana, a municipality in the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni (Seven Municipalities Plateau) in the province of Vicenza. Celebrated in early October in the village's main square, named after the saint, the event unfolds over three days of celebration, uniting devotion, gastronomy, and Cimbrian culture, the ancient Germanic roots of the Plateau.
The heart of the festival is the food stand: offerings range from gnocchi with ragù, butter and sage, or gorgonzola and walnuts, to the pulled meat sandwich called "Cimbrian BBQ", Roman pinsa, and a dish of tosella cheese, polenta, and porcini mushrooms. A cuisine that tells the identity of the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni, between mountain tradition and authentic flavors.
The evenings are enlivened by live music for three consecutive nights, while during the festival there are plenty of traditional games and community moments. Sunday is marked by the mass in honor of the patron saint. The event, organized by Pro Roana, is also an opportunity to rediscover the village's connection to its Cimbrian origins, promoting a unique culture in the Veneto region.
The 2026 edition of the Saint Justina Festival is expected, according to tradition, in the first week of October in Roana. Pro Roana will liven up Piazza Santa Giustina with three days of celebration dedicated to the patron saint, featuring gastronomy, music, and Cimbrian culture.
The food stand will offer gnocchi with ragù, butter and sage, or gorgonzola and walnuts, the Cimbrian BBQ sandwich, Roman pinsa, and a dish of tosella cheese, polenta, and porcini mushrooms.
