Vallarsa's great autumn festival celebrating the end of the alpine grazing season
The San Luca Fair is one of the most cherished autumn events in the municipality of Vallarsa, in the Trentino Vallagarina area. Every year in mid-October, the square in the village of Parrocchia becomes the beating heart of the valley: farmers, agricultural producers, artisans, and local groups gather for a grand community festival that marks the end of the alpine grazing season and the beginning of winter.
The origins of the event are rooted in the farming and pastoral traditions of Vallarsa. Once, the fair was primarily a moment for trading livestock returning from high-altitude pastures; today, it keeps that memory alive through livestock exhibitions and the solemn blessing of the cattle, while having expanded to include cultural, gastronomic, and family-friendly events, offering a true immersion into the valley's autumn spirit.
The fair takes place over the weekend. Saturday is largely dedicated to families and social gatherings: animated readings and children's activities hosted by the municipal library and Teatro Piteco, sensory hay workshops with local farmers, snacks featuring chestnuts and mulled wine, fire brigade demonstrations, a youth aperitif with mixed platters, and the traditional wood auction using the virgin candle method. The evening continues with a traditional Cimbrian dinner and a choral showcase.
Sunday revolves around the most traditional moments: Holy Mass in the Archpriest Church of San Vigilio, the cattle blessing, a toast with Bianco di San Luca wine, a traditional lunch organized by local associations, roaming folk music with accordion players, the awarding of farmers, and the lottery draw.
Throughout the event, the square hosts stalls featuring agricultural and artisanal products, livestock displays, activities organized by the many associations of Vallarsa, and horse rides with the Noriglio Cavalli Association. It is the ideal opportunity to discover the genuine flavors of the Trentino mountains and the Cimbrian identity of this valley in Trentino-Alto Adige.
The 2026 edition of the San Luca Fair returns to Vallarsa on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12, 2026, in the square of the Parrocchia village.
