The Valsugana and Vigolana International Festival is a touring opera series that travels through the municipalities of the Valsugana valley and the Vigolana Plateau, in the province of Trento, within the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The Municipality of Levico Terme serves as its inaugural venue: it is here, in the Palazzo delle Terme surrounded by the historic Habsburg Park, that every edition raises its curtain with the opening concert.
Conceived and produced by the Belcanto Academy APS under the artistic direction of soprano Francesca Micarelli, the festival transforms spa squares, ancient parish churches, castles, and auditoriums into stages for opera, bringing the general public closer to a heritage often perceived as distant. The formula is as simple as it is ambitious: all events are free of charge and feature young international artists selected for the Belcanto Academy Opera Studio advanced training program.
Levico Terme, an exceptional setting
Singers, pianists, and, on some evenings, the Young OperaLab Orchestra perform a program ranging from the most famous arias and duets to full productions of major repertoire titles. In Levico Terme, the inaugural concert is held under the stars in the evocative setting of the Palazzo delle Terme, while in autumn, the spa town hosts a second event featuring the youth orchestra.
The festival involves several of the most picturesque locations in eastern Trentino: in addition to Levico Terme, it visits Pergine Valsugana, Grigno, Borgo Valsugana, Roncegno Terme, Castel Ivano, Castello Tesino, Calliano in the Vallagarina valley, and the Vigolana Plateau. The festival is produced in collaboration with local municipal administrations and with the support of the Autonomous Province of Trento; the festival has been awarded the Eco Eventi Trentino label, reflecting its focus on environmental sustainability.

Valsugana and Vigolana Festival — edition 2026
2026 Edition: The 'Guerra Rustica' in music, from Levico Terme
The fifth edition of the Valsugana and Vigolana International Festival features thirteen free events from June to December 2026, under the artistic direction of Francesca Micarelli and program direction of Massimo Lambertini. The central theme is the 500th anniversary of the 'Guerra Rustica', the famous revolt of the rural classes against the clergy and feudal power that marked the territory in the 16th century.
The festival opens in Levico Terme on June 30 at 9 PM with the inaugural concert 'Opera under the stars' at the Palazzo delle Terme. The following day, July 1, the festival continues with 'Intrigues and power within the manor walls' at Castel Ivano. Levico Terme returns to the spotlight on September 18 with a concert featuring the Young OperaLab Orchestra.
The program then visits Vigolo Vattaro on the Vigolana Plateau (September 15), Grigno (September 16), Roncegno Terme (September 17), Calliano (November 12), and Borgo Valsugana (November 15). The grand finale is dedicated to Mozart's 'The Marriage of Figaro', in an innovative production set in the Valsugana valley, with five performances from December 9 to 13 in Borgo Valsugana, Castel Ivano, Tezze, Castello Tesino, and Pergine Valsugana. The protagonists are the young international artists of the 2026 Belcanto Academy Opera Studio.

Location
The inaugural concert and the autumn stop are held in Levico Terme at the Palazzo delle Terme (Viale Vittorio Emanuele 10), inside the historic Habsburg Park. Other concerts of the festival take place in the various municipalities of the Valsugana valley and the Vigolana Plateau.
How to get there
Levico Terme is served by the Valsugana railway (Trento-Venice line) with a station just a few minutes from the center, and by the SS47 Valsugana state road. It can be reached by car from Trento in about 25 minutes.

All events are free of charge. As this is a touring festival, it is recommended to check the times and venues for each individual concert.
