Historical re-enactment in the hamlet of Ghesteri, Terragnolo
"The Village Comes Alive" is the annual autumn event that brings Ghesteri back to life, one of the oldest hamlets in the municipality of Terragnolo, in Vallagarina, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). For one day, this mountain village—now quiet but rich in memory—awakens once more: through scenes of daily life, forgotten scents, and simple gestures, visitors are taken back in time to discover the beauty of authentic things.
This experience is more than a simple excursion: it is a journey through tales, voices, ancient knowledge, and encounters. Along the village streets, moments of storytelling and re-enactment unfold, restoring the life of the past, built on hard work, community, and tradition. The convivial dimension is also central: the day often concludes with a traditional meal, featuring recipes that reflect the valley's rural culture and the deep bond between the community and its land.
"The Village Comes Alive" is the third and final stage of the "Waiting for the Teragnóle" festival, a series of events leading up to the Teragnóle Walk. The first two stages are "Crafts of a Valley," which transforms Terragnolo into an open-air workshop of demonstrations, tastings, and storytelling, and "From Them to Us… but Always Women," dedicated to the women of yesterday and today with a living installation in Rovereto.
The name of the festival refers to the teragnóle, the women of Terragnolo who, between the 19th and 20th centuries, walked the ancient path connecting the valley to the city of Rovereto every day to sell mountain products. "The Village Comes Alive" preserves and transmits this collective memory, enhancing the identity of a mountain territory and its most remote hamlets.
The initiative is promoted by Rebut APS, a local association committed to enhancing the history and traditions of Terragnolo, with the support of the Rovereto, Vallagarina, and Monte Baldo Tourist Board. It is an event that blends culture, nature, and tradition, inviting you to rediscover an authentic corner of Trentino at a slower pace.
