Saint George the Martyr Fair

A local tradition at the gates of Turin

The Saint George the Martyr Fair is the main spring event in Reano, a small town of just over a thousand inhabitants located in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont, on the rolling morainic hills overlooking the lakes of Avigliana and the Sacra di San Michele. The fair is dedicated to Saint George, the town's patron saint, whose feast day falls on April 23rd: for this reason, the event is traditionally held on the Sunday closest to this date, when spring is in full bloom.

Where it takes place

The heart of the fair is the Piazzale Donatori di Sangue, located within the multipurpose area built in 2003 with European funding. This spacious area, designed specifically to host fairs, markets, and cultural, recreational, and sporting events, welcomes stalls, stands, and dedicated entertainment areas for the occasion, becoming the vibrant center of town life for the day.

Market, hobbyists, and artisans

The soul of the event is the market: along the square, you will find hobbyist stalls, local artisans, producers of gastronomic specialties, and exhibitors offering handicrafts, handmade creations, and local products. It is the perfect opportunity to stroll among the stands, discover small-scale artisanal production, and soak up the authentic atmosphere of a Piedmontese village fair, far from the commercial logic of large-scale events.

Entertainment and activities for children

The Saint George Fair has always paid great attention to families and children. Past editions have featured a free miniature train offered by the Municipality, an inflatable slide, a climbing wall, jugglers, and face painting. Some editions have also hosted Pompieropoli, an educational play activity where children can dress up as firefighters using the equipment provided by the Avigliana volunteers. The atmosphere is that of a festival designed for the whole community, where people gather outdoors among the market, games, and convivial moments.

A gathering for the community

Organized by the Municipality of Reano in collaboration with local associations, the Saint George Fair is much more than just a market: it is a time when the town comes together, rediscovers its roots, and officially welcomes spring. For visitors, it is also an opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of the Turin area, just a few kilometers from the lakes of Avigliana and the great natural and historical itineraries of the lower Susa Valley.
