About Sagra te lu Furese

Every summer, the Montegrappa hill in Tuglie comes alive with the Sagra te lu Furese, a festival dedicated to the fresh sausage of Salento's peasant tradition. Organized by the Pro Loco of Tuglie among the trees of the last spur of the Salento Murgia, the festival offers grilled furese, paparina, roasted and fried peppers, orecchiette, and meatballs in sauce, all accompanied by pizzica music and folk groups from Salento. An evening of flavor, music, and dancing under the stars in the heart of the province of Lecce.

A feast of flavors on the Montegrappa hill

The Sagra te lu Furese is one of the most beloved gastronomic events of the summer in Tuglie, a small town in the province of Lecce in the heart of Salento. The event takes place at Parco Montegrappa, the green area nestled on the last spur of the Salento Murgia where the threshing festival was once celebrated: today, in the cool shade of the hill's trees, the Pro Loco of Tuglie welcomes visitors, tourists, and the many emigrants who return to the village for the summer.

Lu furese, the star of the peasant table

The furese is fresh sausage stuffed according to the ancient local peasant customs: grilled over embers, its aroma fills the entire hill, making it the signature dish of the evening. Alongside the furese, the Pro Loco stands offer specialties of Salento's cucina povera, prepared on the spot by the expert hands of local cooks:

  • Grilled Furese, the typical fresh sausage of Tuglie;
  • Paparina, young poppy leaves sautéed with black olives and chili pepper;
  • Roasted and fried peppers;
  • Orecchiette and meatballs in sauce;
  • tastings of peasant cuisine and typical Salento products.

Music, pizzica, and dancing under the stars

The festival is not just about food: the evening continues with live music by pizzica and Salento folk groups, who enliven the Montegrappa square with the rhythm of the tambourine and dancing under the stars. There is no shortage of craft markets and spaces dedicated to folk traditions, making Parco Montegrappa a meeting place for families and visitors of all ages.

A piece of the Salento summer

The Sagra te lu Furese is part of the rich calendar of summer festivals that the Pro Loco of Tuglie organizes on the Montegrappa hill, alongside evenings dedicated to pittula, panzarottu, and other traditional products. It is an authentic opportunity to discover the flavors and sounds of the most genuine Salento, in a natural setting just a stone's throw from the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Montegrappa, in the truest Puglia.

Sagra te lu Furese — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Sagra te lu Furese is announced for Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Parco Montegrappa in Tuglie. As every year, the Pro Loco of Tuglie will offer grilled furese and specialties of Salento's peasant cuisine, accompanied by live music on the Montegrappa hill. The detailed program for the evening will be announced by the Pro Loco in the weeks leading up to the event.

The Sagra te lu Furese 2026 is scheduled for August 13, 2026, at Parco Montegrappa in Tuglie, in the province of Lecce.
