Taviano's summer between land, sea, and culture in Salento
TerrAmare is the summer festival promoted by the Municipality of Taviano, with the patronage of the Province of Lecce, which accompanies the summer season in lower Salento, Puglia, every year. It is not a single event but a true widespread program: dozens of appointments spread across the summer that involve the entire municipal territory, from the historic center of Taviano to the seaside hamlet of Marina di Mancaversa.
The title stems from a playful combination of three words—terra (land), amare (to love), and mare (sea)—which together tell the soul of the initiative: the love for one's land and the sea that embraces it, the passion for traditions, culture, and Salento hospitality. A simple formula that summarizes the identity of a town suspended between the flowering countryside of the hinterland, where floriculture is a historical vocation, and the Ionian coast.
The festival is designed for a broad and varied audience, from children to culture enthusiasts, from sports lovers to those of art and fine dining. The calendar is divided into thematic areas:
The stage for TerrAmare is the entire town. The squares of the historic center, starting from Piazza del Popolo, host the city evenings, while Marina di Mancaversa welcomes events that combine music and the sea, such as sunset concerts on the beach. It is this dual soul—urban and coastal—that makes the festival capable of capturing both residents and the many tourists who choose the Ionian Salento coast for their summer holidays.
TerrAmare is coordinated by the municipal administration of Taviano through the Department of Culture and Tourism, together with numerous associations, Pro Loco, and local volunteers. The collaboration with the Province of Lecce places the event in the wider summer calendar of Salento, among the richest and most popular in all of Puglia.
The 2026 edition of Taviano's summer festival kicked off on Sunday, June 28, 2026, with EstArte, the inaugural event that transformed Piazza del Popolo into a meeting place dedicated to music, art, and conviviality.
During EstArte, the squares of the center hosted works by local painters—including Elisabetta De Maria, Marinella Nassisi, Elena Del Rosario, and Loredana My—alongside creative workshops for children curated by various local associations. The soundtrack was provided by Progetto Calandra, dedicated to Salento folk music, and the band Atmosfera Blu.
The program continues throughout the summer between the historic center and the coast. In Marina di Mancaversa, with the support of the Municipality and TerrAmare, Véspera is held, a festival of sunset concerts on the Spiaggetta dei Cavalli, including events such as the one on August 24 with the Apulian singer and violinist Natalia Abbascià.
As per tradition, the complete program for summer 2026—including music, art and crafts, cinema, book presentations, theater, dance, sports events, and activities for children—is being released progressively by the Municipality of Taviano.
The detailed program is updated during the season on the channels of the Municipality of Taviano.
By car: Taviano can be reached from the SS274 "Salentina Meridionale", taking the Taviano/Racale exit; Marina di Mancaversa is a few kilometers from the center towards the Ionian coast. By train: the nearest stations are those of the Ferrovie del Sud Est in Casarano and Gallipoli. By plane: the reference airport is Brindisi-Salento, about an hour and a half drive away.
The festival takes place throughout the summer, roughly from June to September, with the highest concentration of events between July and August.
Most events have free admission; for some specific concerts or shows, tickets may be required. The detailed program is published by the Municipality of Taviano and on the event's social media channels.
