The Salento bread that defines summer in Supersano
In the heart of lower Salento, the town of Supersano (Province of Lecce, Puglia) hosts one of its most anticipated summer events: the Sagra ta Puccia, a festival dedicated to the most traditional and delicious of Salento breads. The event brings Piazza IV Novembre and the historic center to life, turning them into a vibrant journey of flavors, music, and local traditions.
The absolute protagonist is the puccia, baked in a traditional wood-fired oven and available in countless variations: from peppers and tomatoes to seasonal vegetables, tuna, and grilled meats. The olive-infused puccia, in particular, tells the story of Salento's rural heritage and the deep bond between this land and its olive trees.
The evenings of the Sagra ta Puccia are filled with live performances of traditional Salento folk music, featuring pizzica and tarantella bands, along with roving street performers who entertain crowds throughout the village until late at night.
The municipal gardens host the EXPO Supersano, a showcase for local craftsmanship and regional agri-food products. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the typical products of lower Salento and support the work of small local producers.
The festival is also an invitation to explore the heritage of Supersano: the MuBo (Wood Museum), the municipal underground oil mill, the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Coelimanna, and the famous mosaics by Father Marko Ivan Rupnik. Gastronomic tradition, identity, and culture intertwine in one of the most historic festivals of the Salento summer.
The event is organized by the Comitato Feste Patronali and admission is free. The 2026 edition is scheduled for August 3rd, with the full musical program to be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the festival.
The Sagra ta Puccia returns to Supersano on August 3, 2026, confirming its status as one of the historic highlights of the Salento summer. Piazza IV Novembre and the historic center will host food stalls where you can enjoy stuffed puccia, baked in traditional wood-fired ovens, while the municipal gardens will host the EXPO featuring local crafts and regional products. As of today, the detailed concert program has not yet been released; it will be published by the Comitato Feste Patronali closer to the event.
Supersano is located in lower Salento, in the province of Lecce. By car, take the SS275 (Maglie-Leuca) and exit at Supersano; the nearest train station is Casarano (Ferrovie Sud Est), which connects to Lecce.
The events are centered around Piazza IV Novembre and the historic center, with the EXPO located in the municipal gardens.
Admission is free. Pucce and other tastings can be purchased at the food stalls at affordable prices.
