The lights of the world capital of illuminations brighten up the Salento Christmas
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Scorrano, a small town in the province of Lecce in the heart of Salento, is known worldwide as the Capital of Illuminations: here, the art of lighting up festivals is passed down from generation to generation and has become a true hallmark of identity. While the town's international fame stems from the historic Festa di Santa Domenica in summer, Christmas also transforms the village into a path of light that attracts visitors from all over Puglia and beyond.
From the historic center to Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II and Piazzetta Municipio, local craftsmen set up suspended light galleries, luminous skies along the alleys, vertical installations, and illuminated tunnels. In the square, two Christmas trees nearly 20 meters tall stand as the scenic heart of the entire route. Every evening, after sunset, the illuminations come to life with shows synchronized to music, offering a unique atmosphere.
Along the illuminated route, you will find Christmas markets with stalls and wooden huts dedicated to local products: artisanal cheeses, cured meats, extra virgin olive oil, wines like Negramaro and Primitivo, and traditional sweets such as purciddhruzzi, mustazzoli, and the local pasticciotto leccese. You cannot miss the pittule, prepared on the spot in both sweet and savory versions. There is also plenty of Salento craftsmanship, from papier-mรขchรฉ to Lecce stone, and from painted ceramics to olive wood, all accompanied by wandering bagpipers.
Among the most beloved events is the Sand Nativity, set up in the Cloister of the former Agostiniani Convent and in the Courtyard of Palazzo De Iaco-Veris, where international artists shape large sacred sculptures. The Santa Claus and Solidarity Village animates the days dedicated to children, with Santa's House, the delivery of letters, and charitable initiatives by local associations. The Santa Lucia Fair, with its stalls and gastronomic specialties, traditionally marks the start of the festivities.
Thanks to the combination of light, tradition, taste, and spirituality, Christmas in Scorrano is an unmissable stop for those visiting Salento during the holidays. An experience that blends the magic of the illuminations with the genuine hospitality of a Puglian village, amidst the scents, colors, and sounds of tradition.
The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced. Christmas in Scorrano is a recurring event that, over the years, has enlivened the historic center and Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II with the artistic illuminations of the World Capital of Lights, Christmas markets, and events dedicated to families. The detailed program will be published by the organizers closer to the holidays: check back on this page for updates.
