Sagra Mondiale della Gota

The 'gota', queen of the Altotevere table

The Sagra Mondiale della Gota takes place in the hamlet of Lama, in the municipality of San Giustino (Perugia), and celebrates the 'gota', or pork jowl, the star product of the gastronomic tradition of the Upper Tiber Valley. Its preparation is a small ritual: the 'gota' is salted for about a week, then washed with vinegar and natural spices, and finally left to age for about three months, until it is ready for cooking or to be enjoyed on a slice of hot bread.

Carbonara, amatriciana and local dishes

At the festival's food stands, the 'gota' is the absolute protagonist: you can taste pasta alla carbonara and all'amatriciana, as well as numerous other Umbrian dishes. A festival designed for lovers of good food, which attracts visitors from all over the region every year.

Music, dancing and MotoGota

The festival is not just about food: every evening, from 9 PM, dance orchestras liven up the dance floor, while the traditional MotoGota rally welcomes motorcycles and scooters in a festive atmosphere. Organized by the Comitato Sagra Mondiale della Gota, the event is a regular fixture of the summer in Lama and the entire Upper Tiber Valley, capable of combining authentic flavours, music, and conviviality.
