Half a century of chestnuts, art and tradition in the village of Morra
The Sagra della Castagna di Morra is one of the longest-running autumn festivals in the Upper Tiber Valley. It takes place in the hillside village of Morra, a hamlet of Città di Castello (province of Perugia), and in 2025 it reached the prestigious milestone of fifty years. Organized by the Pro Loco Morra, it celebrates chestnuts and the flavours of the woods with free admission.
The stars are the roasted chestnuts and the many chestnut-based products — sweets, must, and wine — alongside the specialties of Morra's cuisine. The food stands, open throughout the festival, are complemented by exhibitions and sales of artisanal products, ancient crafts, and walks in the woods.
The festival is closely linked to morrArte, the contemporary art exhibition that accompanies its editions, and to the discovery of the village: the historic alleys, the Church of Santa Maria (12th century), and especially the Oratory of San Crescentino, home to precious frescoes attributed to Luca Signorelli. A combination of gastronomy, art, and tradition that makes the Sagra della Castagna di Morra an exceptional autumn event in Umbria.
The new edition of the Sagra della Castagna di Morra is expected in October 2026 in the village of Morra, Città di Castello, after the historic fifty-year milestone celebrated in 2025. As tradition dictates, the Pro Loco Morra will offer roasted chestnuts, chestnut-based products (sweets, must, and wine), and Morra's specialties, along with walks in the woods, an exhibition of artisanal products, and the morrArte contemporary art exhibition. The festival is also an opportunity to visit the historic alleys, the Church of Santa Maria, and the Oratory of San Crescentino with Signorelli's frescoes. Precise dates will be announced by the Pro Loco.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Pro Loco Morra. The usual structure of the festival includes:
