Aragona's rustic pizza meets international flavors, music, and folklore
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Sagra du Cuddiruni Ragunisi is one of the most cherished gastronomic events in Aragona, a hillside town in the province of Agrigento, in the heart of Sicily. The festival is dedicated to the cuddiruni (known locally as "cuddiruni ragunisi"), a rustic durum wheat pizza that village women once prepared using leftover bread dough to ensure nothing went to waste. From a humble domestic practice, the cuddiruni has become the symbol of Aragona's gastronomic identity.
The cuddiruni is a delicious topped pizza baked in the oven, available in two traditional versions: white or red with tomato sauce. Key ingredients that define its flavor include anchovies, onions, grated pecorino cheese, olive oil, oregano, and breadcrumbs. It is a dish poor in origins but rich in flavor, reflecting the grain and oven culture typical of the Agrigento hinterland.
The festival is held alongside the Triscele Folk Fiesta, a gathering of folk groups that brings traditional music, dance, and costumes to the square. Alongside local ensemblesโsuch as the "Cittร di Aragona" group and "I Tammura di Girgenti"โthe event hosts groups from various countries, giving the evening an international dimension of cultural exchange and performance. The festival, set in Piazza Umberto I, features a mix of tastings, folk parades, live performances, and a grand fireworks finale.
The event is organized by the ASD & APS Amici Raunisi association with the patronage of the Municipality of Aragona and is a staple summer appointment for residents and visitors alike. Between the food stalls, the aroma of freshly baked cuddiruni, and the notes of folk music, the festival offers an authentic opportunity to discover the traditions of Aragona and Sicily in a festive atmosphere that unites flavors, community, and folklore.
The Sagra du Cuddiruni Ragunisi returns to Aragona, in the province of Agrigento, for a new edition expected in August. As every year, the event is set to feature tastings of the local rustic pizza and the Triscele Folk Fiesta with its folk groups. The dates and the detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been communicated: this page will be updated as soon as the organizers, the Amici Raunisi association, publish the official information.
The festival takes place in Piazza Umberto I, in the center of Aragona (AG), Sicily.
By car: Aragona is accessible via the SS189 and SS118, just a few kilometers from Agrigento. By train: the Aragona-Caldare station is served by regional lines; the Agrigento Centrale station is the main hub for those arriving from outside the province. By plane: the nearest airport is Palermo's "Falcone-Borsellino" Airport.
Admission to the event and folk performances is free; tastings of the cuddiruni and local specialties are available at the stalls set up in the square.
The festival is held in the evening, during the cooler hours of the Agrigento summer. We recommend arriving early to catch the folk parade and enjoy the cuddiruni while it is still hot.
