The centenary patronal feast of Favara, blending faith, votive soups, Sicilian carts, and major concerts
For over a century, the Saint Joseph Festival has been the most anticipated and identity-defining event in Favara, a populous town in the Agrigento hinterland. Every year, between late August and early September, the entire community gathers around its patron saint in a celebration that weaves together faith, memory, and popular identity. It is a festival that also draws back many expatriate Favaresi, who return home to relive days filled with emotion alongside family and lifelong friends.
The spiritual heart of the festival is the novena, which prepares the community for the saint's solemnity with daily celebrations at the Church of the Rosary, where the statue of Saint Joseph is kept. The day of the feast is entirely dedicated to devotion: from the first Holy Masses at dawn to the solemn evening Eucharistic Concelebration, followed by the evocative procession of the statue through the city streets, accompanied by marching bands and the Hymn to Saint Joseph.
Among the most beloved rites are the famous Saint Joseph soups, prepared and shared in the historic neighborhoods during the processions: a gesture of hospitality and solidarity rooted in the most authentic Sicilian peasant culture. Another spectacular moment is the wheat harvest with harnessed horses, an ancient re-enactment of threshing that colors the streets of Favara with richly decorated Sicilian carts and folk parades.
Alongside the religious dimension, the festival offers a rich calendar of evening shows in Piazza Cavour: cabaret, dance, musical tributes, and above all, major free concerts by the most beloved names in Italian music. In recent years, artists such as Silvia Salemi, Orietta Berti, and Marcella Bella have graced the Favara stage, confirming the prestige achieved by this popular event.
Located just a few kilometers from Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples, Favara is a city with a strong cultural vocation. The Saint Joseph Festival represents its deepest soul, organized with passion by the Saint Joseph Cultural Association together with the parish community and the municipal administration. An unmissable event for those who want to discover the most authentic Sicily, made of devotion, flavors, and hospitality.
The 2026 Saint Joseph Festival in Favara will reach its climax on Sunday, August 31, 2026, when Francesco Renga will take the stage in Piazza Cavour for a major free concert. The singer-songwriter, winner of the Sanremo Festival, will close a week of celebrations that, as per tradition, will alternate moments of faith and devotion with cultural, folkloric, and entertainment events.
The 2026 edition will also feature the novena, processions of the statue, the unmissable Saint Joseph soups shared in the neighborhoods, wheat threshing with harnessed horses, and Sicilian carts. The detailed day-by-day program will be announced by the Saint Joseph Cultural Association closer to the event.

The full daily program (religious celebrations, votive soups, wheat harvest with harnessed horses, Sicilian carts, marching bands, evening shows, and fireworks) will be published by the Saint Joseph Cultural Association in the weeks leading up to the festival.
