The patronal festival of Paluzza, featuring cjarsòns, music, and Carnia tradition
San Giacomo — San Jacum in the local dialect — is the patron saint of Paluzza, an important village in the upper Val But on the road to the Monte Croce Carnico Pass. His festival, the Sagra di San Jacum, takes place in July and transforms the village into a large meeting place: several days of music, food, and fun that renew a tradition deeply felt by the Carnia community.
The program alternates evenings of live music — with dance orchestras, folk groups, and DJs — with the large San Jacum market, which fills the village streets with stalls on Sundays. Among the most enjoyable events are the human foosball tournament, art exhibitions, and numerous entertainment moments for all ages.
The culinary heart of the festival is the food stalls, where you can taste the specialties of Carnia cuisine: herb cjarsòns — the typical sweet and savory ravioli of Carnia — grilled meats, wurst, French fries, sandwiches, and berry semifreddos. Simple and generous cuisine that tells the deep connection between Paluzza and its mountains.
The Sagra di San Jacum is one of those events that mark the summer in mountain villages: an occasion for reunion for those who live in Paluzza year-round and for returning emigrants, and a moment of welcome for visitors ascending the Val But. Between faith, tradition, and conviviality, it is the festival that best tells the soul of this Carnia village.
The 2026 edition of the Sagra di San Jacum will take place in Paluzza in July, coinciding with the feast of the patron saint San Giacomo.
