Music that ascends the mountains

Carniarmonie is one of the most important music festivals in Friuli Venezia Giulia and among the longest-running in the Alpine region. For over thirty years, during the summer months, it has brought great music to the highlands: concerts take place in Carnia, Valcanale, and Canal del Ferro, across a network of over twenty municipalities led by Tolmezzo. Organized by the Fondazione Luigi Bon, the festival has made its distinctive feature the widespread diffusion throughout the territory: music reaches mountain churches, village squares, theatres, and mountain huts, transforming each concert into an experience that is both listening and landscape discovery.

A program that spans genres

Carniarmonie's programming is notoriously broad and ambitious. Alongside the great symphonic and chamber repertoire, there is space for jazz, operetta, sacred music, contemporary music, and special projects such as tableaux vivants or concert performances. Each year, the festival hosts internationally renowned orchestras, ensembles, and soloists, often building editions dedicated to a geographical or thematic focus. The FVG Orchestra, the regional symphony institution, is a recurring presence, as are cross-border collaborations with organizations from Slovenia and Austria, in full Euroregional spirit.

The municipalities of Carnia take centre stage

Carniarmonie's strength lies in its deep roots. Concerts touch dozens of locations—from Tolmezzo to Sauris, from Forni Avoltri to Arta Terme, from Paluzza to Tarvisio—enhancing small mountain villages and their symbolic sites. The festival is thus also an extraordinary itinerary through Alpine villages, historic buildings, and panoramas of the Friulian Dolomites and the Carnic Alps, an invitation to experience the Friulian mountains through culture.
