The festival of forest fruits in the upper Degano valley

Forni Avoltri, one of the northernmost municipalities in Friuli Venezia Giulia, is located in the upper Degano valley amidst the Carnic Alps, at the foot of Monte Coglians. Here, every year around the end of July, the Associazione Turistica Pro - Forni Avoltri organises the Festa dei Frutti di Bosco (Festival of Forest Fruits), one of the most beloved events of the Carnic summer, dedicated to the blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and currants that grow wild in the local woods.

Flavours, market, and tradition

The absolute stars are the forest fruits, featured in a thousand ways at the food stalls run by local associations and restaurateurs: artisan jams, tarts, strudels and desserts, flavoured liqueurs and grappas, alongside traditional Carnic dishes. All around, there is a market selling local artisan and agri-food products, with ethnographic exhibitions, demonstrations of ancient crafts, and old-fashioned games.

Nature, excursions, and community

The festival is also an opportunity to discover the nature of Alta Carnia: the programme includes guided excursions and walks in the woods, demonstrations of summer biathlon by local athletes (Forni Avoltri is home to a historic skiing and shooting tradition), activities for children with face painting and entertainment, exhibitions by local artists, and live music throughout the day. An event that combines taste, mountains, and community identity, supported by the Municipality of Forni Avoltri and the network of Pro Loco (local tourism associations) of Carnia.
