The Friulian festival dedicated to ostrich meat
Among the many festivals in Friuli, the one in Pozzuolo del Friuli has a decidedly unusual star: the ostrich. The Sagra dello Struzzo, organized by the Pro Loco with the commitment of about two hundred volunteers, has been celebrating this curious animal, also farmed in the region, for almost thirty years, transforming it into the heart of a great popular festival lasting ten days between July and August.
Ostrich meat, lean and rich in protein, iron, omega 3 and 6, and B vitamins, is offered in all its variations: ragù, stew, goulash, and meatballs. The raw material comes from a farm in Magnano in Riviera, confirming the strong link with the Friulian territory. The festival also stands out for its sustainable choice of ceramic plates and metal cutlery, and for its affordable prices, designed for families.
Alongside the gastronomy, the musical program is very rich: traditional dance orchestras and live music liven up the main evenings, while the youth area offers emerging bands, DJ sets, and a beer garden. For families and children, there is the foam party, while the charity raffle with gastronomic prizes is an unmissable classic.
Capable of attracting about a thousand visitors per evening, the Sagra dello Struzzo is a model of efficiency and Friulian volunteerism: short waiting times even on peak evenings, popular prices, and attention to sustainability. An event that combines gastronomic curiosity, celebration, and community, and which every summer draws visitors from all over the region to Pozzuolo del Friuli.
The twenty-eighth edition of the Sagra dello Struzzo confirms the tried-and-tested formula: ostrich-based gastronomy, great music, and lots of fun for the whole family.
The festival takes place in the Festival Area of Pozzuolo del Friuli from July 24 to August 2, 2026, with evening opening of the food stalls and wine bar. Every evening, live music with traditional dance orchestras on the main stage and a youth area with emerging bands, DJ sets, and a beer garden. Among the traditional events are the foam party for families and children, aperitifs, and the charity raffle with gastronomic prizes. The detailed day-by-day program will be published by Pro Loco Pozzuolo on prolocopozzuolo.it.
