Sagre dai Borgs di Jalmicco

A festival that is the heart of the village

There are festivals that tell the identity of a community better than any history book, and in Jalmicco, a small hamlet of Palmanova in the Bassa friulana, that festival is the Sagre dai Borgs. With over half a century of editions behind it, it is one of the most traditional and long-lasting festivals in the entire area, capable of mobilizing the entire village every summer.

The tournament of the four hamlets

The very name of the festival refers to the heart of the event: the tournament between the four hamlets into which Jalmicco is ideally divided — Borg di Sôre, Borg di Sot, Place e Palme, Cjasalòs. The districts compete in games and challenges, while the village relay race, organized by Jalmicco Corse, ignites the competition among the inhabitants. It is a neighborhood festival in the most authentic sense, with good-natured rivalry becoming the glue of the community.

The gnocchi that made history

If the Sagre dai Borgs is famous far beyond the village borders, it owes it above all to its handmade potato gnocchi with ragù prepared on site. Alongside them, the food stalls offer grilled meats, fried dishes, traditional dishes, and Central European specialties, accompanied by beer and local wines. All this amidst live music, dancing, and entertainment evenings.

Festival, music, and fireworks

Every evening has its musical event, with dance orchestras, the Palmanova civic band, rock groups, and DJs. The festival traditionally concludes with a grand evening and a fireworks display at midnight, sealing a week of conviviality that renews the most anticipated event of Jalmicco's summer every year.
