Festinpiazza – Sagra di San Lorenzo

The village festival that meets in the square

In Talmassons, in the Bassa Friulana area of the province of Udine, summer has a peak moment: Festinpiazza, the sagra (local festival) dedicated to Saint Lawrence the Martyr, the village patron saint, whose feast day is August 10th. For five or six days, Piazza Vittorio Veneto and the town centre streets transform into the community's open-air living room, filled with the aroma of grilled food, music, and a desire to be together.

A tradition born in 1991

Festinpiazza was born in 1991 thanks to the initiative of the municipal administration of the time, the parish, and the entire community. Since then, the event, organised by the Associazione Festinpiazza (Festinpiazza Association) with the patronage of the Municipality of Talmassons, has grown to become a key event for the entire Bassa region, capable of involving hundreds of volunteers and thousands of visitors.

What to eat and experience

The heart of the festival is the large gastronomic area, with grills and typical dishes served every evening through a convenient centralised ordering system. But Festinpiazza is also, and above all, music and entertainment, spread across multiple areas:

• Dancing with traditional 'liscio' orchestras
• Concerts, cover bands, DJ sets, and rock and pop evenings
• Magic shows, dance performances, and entertainment
• Exhibitions in the oratory and library
• Charity raffles throughout the festival
• Activities and games for children

Traditions and surroundings

Among the most characteristic events are the cycling tour through the countryside and canals of Talmassons and the evocative "greeting to the sun" at dawn at the historic Mulino Braida (Braida Mill) in Flambro. Talmassons is located in a water-rich area, a few kilometres from the Stella River springs and the Quadris oasis, a nature reserve known for the reintroduction of storks: a discovery to combine with the festival.
