The festival celebrating the snail amidst the stone alleyways of the upper Valle Argentina
In Molini di Triora, a municipality in the Province of Imperia nestled in the upper Valle Argentina, the snail is the star of a festival rooted in mountain peasant cuisine. The village, known for its ancient water mills and its proximity to Triora, the "witches' village," preserves a genuine gastronomic tradition that the festival celebrates every year at the end of summer.
The gastronomic stands of the Pro Loco offer snails in the most typical preparations: stewed with tomato, flavored with local aromatic herbs, served in thick and flavorful soups, or simply sautéed with garlic and parsley. Accompanying the main dishes are local wines, mountain cheeses, and typical valley desserts.
The event takes place among the stone alleyways of the historic center, in a secluded and authentic atmosphere, with folk music and entertainment. Recognized among the Authentic Ligurian Events, the Sagra della Lumaca is the perfect opportunity to discover a little-known corner of western Liguria, where the table tells centuries of mountain life.
For 2026, the Sagra della Lumaca in Molini di Triora has an official date: September 13, confirmed by the Liguria Region as part of the Authentic Events 2026. The Pro Loco will again offer snails prepared in traditional ways — stewed with tomato, with aromatic herbs, in soup, and sautéed with garlic and parsley — accompanied by local wines, mountain cheeses, and typical valley desserts.
The festival unfolds through the stone alleyways of the historic center, with folk music and entertainment. Detailed program timings will be released by the Pro Loco closer to the event.
