The traditional pastoral dish of ancient Maronea
In Montefalcone nel Sannio, the ancient Maronea in the province of Campobasso, the Sagra della Capra is the gastronomic event of the summer. Now in its twenty-fifth edition, it celebrates on August 10th a product deeply linked to the pastoral tradition of this corner of Molise.
The absolute protagonist is the local goat, raised on the pastures between the Trigno and Sannio rivers and cooked according to traditional peasant recipes. In the afternoon, there are cheese-making demonstrations, with the transformation of milk into cheese, while in the evening, from 8:00 PM, the stands open for tasting the typical dish, accompanied by music and festive moments.
Organized by the Pro Loco Maronea, the festival is one of the most cherished moments of the Montefalconese summer: an opportunity to rediscover authentic flavors, support local farming, and reunite the village community.
