Cavatelli, the queen of the Molise table

In Civitacampomarano (CB), a village in inland Molise famous for its Angevin castle and street art, the Sagra dei Cavatelli is the gastronomic event that fills Piazza Municipio every August 13th. The star is the cavatello, the handmade pasta of Molise tradition, prepared by the women of the village and served with a flavorful meat ragù.

A tradition born from the community

The festival originated in the early nineties when a group of villagers decided to close the August festivities with a large dinner based on cavatelli. The initiative was later adopted by the Pro Loco Vincenzo Cuoco — named after the illustrious philosopher and patriot born in Civitacampomarano — which set the date for August 13th, keeping the tradition alive year after year.

Taste, music, and conviviality

The evening generally begins around 7:30 PM and offers, in addition to cavatelli with ragù, other local specialties, all accompanied by folk music. It is a moment of collective celebration that attracts hundreds of people each year, including residents, tourists, and the many emigrants who return to the village for the summer. The event enjoys the patronage of the Municipality and the Molise Region.
