The re-enactment of the peasant world in the Montenerese Summer
In Montenero di Bisaccia, an agricultural village in the province of Campobasso overlooking the Adriatic Sea, the Festa della Trebbiatura (Threshing Festival) brings to life one of the most deeply rooted traditions of the peasant world: the wheat threshing, a central moment of the agricultural cycle of the past.
The event re-enacts the ancient gestures of harvesting and threshing, with vintage machinery and tools, the processing of wheat, and the sharing of traditional peasant dishes. It is a journey into the collective memory of the town, allowing younger generations to discover how the harvest was carried out before mechanisation, and the elderly to rediscover memories of their childhood.
Included in the programme of the Estate Montenerese (Montenerese Summer), the festival is noted as one of the most important events in Montenero di Bisaccia, alongside the Sagra della Ventricina (Ventricina Festival), the artisan exhibition, and the wine festival, testifying to the strong rural and gastronomic identity of this corner of Molise.
The Festa della Trebbiatura is also expected in the summer of 2026 in Montenero di Bisaccia, as part of the Estate Montenerese. The event re-enacts the ancient wheat threshing with vintage machinery and tools, showing the gestures of the harvest of the past and offering traditional peasant dishes. The precise date will be announced by the Municipality when the summer schedule is published.
Detailed dates and times will be released with the Estate Montenerese schedule.
