The Sagra del Fagiolo of Osimo

The Sagra del Fagiolo is one of the many food and wine festivals that liven up the summer and early autumn in Osimo, a hilltop town in the province of Ancona, in the Marche region. It takes place at the Parish of Mercy and is part of the rich program of Osimo's sagre, a tradition that every year attracts residents and visitors from all over the area with dozens of events dedicated to local typical products.

The bean, protagonist of the peasant table

At the center of the festival is the bean, a humble and nutritious legume that has always held a place of honor in the traditional cuisine of the Marche region. Soups, stews, beans with pork rind, and other traditional dishes are prepared by volunteers from the parish committee and served at the food stalls, where people sit at long tables to share a simple and authentic meal, accompanied by local wines.

A community festival

More than a tourist event, the Sagra del Fagiolo is a moment of popular gathering: the kitchen is run by volunteers, the proceeds support the parish's activities, and the atmosphere is typical of neighborhood festivals, with music, dancing evenings, and a family-friendly climate. Osimo is known for its rich calendar of festivals and sagre, among the richest in the Marche region: the Municipality coordinates a long series of events every year—from the Sagra del Leone to the Sagra del Vincisgrassi, from the Sagra della Rana to the Sagra della Bruschetta—spread between the historic center and the numerous hamlets. The Sagra del Fagiolo, held at the beginning of September, ideally marks the transition towards autumn and the legume season.
