The chestnut celebration amidst the ancient woods of Valle Mongia
Every autumn, the municipality of Battifollo, a tiny village of just over two hundred inhabitants perched at nearly 500 meters above sea level in the Valle Mongia, in the province of Cuneo, comes alive for its Chestnut Festival. Organized with passion by the Pro Loco of Battifollo, the event marks the end of the local festival season and attracts residents, hikers, and curious visitors from across the Langa of Ceva and neighboring valleys every year.
The chestnut has always been the iconic fruit of these woods: the ancient chestnut groves covering the slopes of Valle Mongia have nourished mountain communities for generations and today serve as the common thread for a festival that weaves together nature, gastronomy, and farming heritage. The Battifollo Chestnut Festival is not a manufactured event, but the natural extension of an ancient bond between the village and its still-productive chestnut trees.
The day traditionally opens with a walk through the woods: from the Pro Loco hall in Piazza del Municipio, participants set off to discover the valley's ancient chestnut groves, immersed in the quiet of the Piedmontese autumn. Upon returning around noon, it is time for the convivial lunch, featuring a menu that highlights local flavors: from vitello tonnato to chestnut flour gnocchi, and hazelnut cakes from the Langhe.
In the afternoon, the village fills with the scent of roasted chestnuts, distributed to everyone, while stalls of artisans and local producers enliven the town streets. There is no shortage of activities for children and festive moments that make this fair a great outing for the whole family.
The Battifollo Chestnut Festival reaches an important milestone in 2026, and the Pro Loco promises a particularly rich program for the occasion. It is one more reason to discover this authentic corner of the province of Cuneo, far from the major tourist circuits but capable of offering the genuine atmosphere of Piedmontese village festivals.

Battifollo is located in the Valle Mongia, in the province of Cuneo. By car, it can be reached from the Ceva motorway exit (A6 Turin-Savona), then continuing along the provincial roads that climb up the valley. The village is just a few kilometers from Ceva.
The meeting point is the Pro Loco hall in Piazza del Municipio, from which the walk through the chestnut groves also departs. Activities take place between the square and the streets of the town center.
For the walk, comfortable shoes suitable for mountain trails and layered clothing are recommended, given the mid-mountain autumn climate. Reservations are generally required for the convivial lunch: it is advisable to contact the Pro Loco in advance via their official Facebook page, which publishes program updates.
