Fresh traditional pasta in the heart of the Pollino village
Among the dishes that best tell the story of the peasant cuisine of Castelluccio Inferiore are the rascatiddi, a typical fresh pasta made by hand, similar to cavatelli, obtained by "rascando" (dragging) small pieces of dough on the pastry board. It is to this specialty that the Pollino village, in the Province of Potenza, dedicates its Sagra dei Rascatiddi, a summer event traditionally held around Ferragosto, when the town fills with visitors and holidaymakers.
During the festival, the food stalls offer rascatiddi dressed according to traditional recipes, accompanied by other flavors of Lucanian cuisine. It is a popular festival in the truest sense of the word: an opportunity for the community to come together, for emigrants to return to their hometown, and for tourists to discover a genuine local product. Music, dancing, and convivial moments complete the evenings, in a cheerful atmosphere typical of summer festivals in the South.
Castelluccio Inferiore, with its historic stone center on the edge of the Pollino National Park, offers the ideal setting for an August evening dedicated to taste and tradition. The Sagra dei Rascatiddi is one of the events that liven up the village's summer, along with other festivals that mark the Lucanian year: a simple and genuine opportunity to savor the inland Basilicata region in its most convivial dimension.
In 2026, Castelluccio Inferiore will once again host the Sagra dei Rascatiddi, the summer event dedicated to the village's typical fresh pasta, on the traditional date of August 14th. Final confirmation will be announced by the Pro Loco in the weeks prior.
The food stalls will feature rascatiddi dressed according to traditional recipes, accompanied by music and convivial moments on the warm August evenings of the Lucanian Pollino.
