Two days dedicated to the Sarconi IGP Bean between gastronomy, music, and tradition in Val d'Agri
Some products alone tell the story of a territory. For Sarconi, a small municipality in the Val d'Agri in the province of Potenza, that product is the Sarconi IGP Bean: a legume with tender skin, a delicate flavor, and particularly digestible, cultivated along the banks of the Agri River and protected by the European Protected Geographical Indication mark. For over forty years, the Sagra del Fagiolo IGP di Sarconi, one of the oldest and most attended gastronomic events in Basilicata, has revolved around this excellence.
For two days, usually in mid-August, the historic center and Piazza Municipio transform into a large gastronomic trail: stands and kitchens offer the bean in all its variations, from appetizers to desserts, accompanied by other typical products from Val d'Agri. Alongside the food, there are craft markets, folklore moments, and a growing focus on sustainability, with recent editions becoming completely plastic free.
Over the years, the sagra has raised its profile, combining peasant tradition with nationally recognized names. The evenings feature starred chefs in show cooking sessions reinventing the bean in a gourmet style, television presenters as testimonials, and concerts by leading Italian artists, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to Sarconi from across the region and beyond.
Behind the event is the work of the Pro Loco of Sarconi (local tourism board), which has been preserving and promoting this tradition for decades, and the support of the Municipality of Sarconi. The sagra is not just an enogastronomic showcase: it's a moment when the village tells its story, values its producers, and welcomes those who come to discover a Lucanian excellence recognized among the quality sagre at a national level.
The Sagra del Fagiolo IGP di Sarconi returns, as per the now-established tradition, on August 18 and 19, 2026. The historic center and Piazza Municipio will host the grand gastronomic trail dedicated to the IGP bean, stands featuring typical products, craft markets, and evening entertainment.
The organization is handled by the Pro Loco of Sarconi with the support of the Municipality. The edition confirms the plastic-free commitment introduced in recent years.
The detailed program for the new edition, including guests and concerts, will be announced by the Pro Loco of Sarconi in the weeks preceding the event. The usual structure includes:
